(en) Poland, FA: October 3, Torun - DEMONSTRATION AGAINST XENOPHOBIA - OUR STREETS, YOUR BORDERS (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Thu, 15 Oct 2026 08:42:16 +0300

Xenophobia is often portrayed as a fringe view, characteristic only of extremist circles. In reality, prejudice against migrants is increasingly becoming part of the everyday language of public debate, politics, and media narratives. Fear of the "outsider"-and fear-mongering regarding migration, terrorism, violence, disease, or job losses-are used to create divisions and channel public discontent against those most easily scapegoated. --- We do not accept a world where a person is judged by their place of birth, origin, skin color, language, documents, or citizenship status. We do not accept the division of people into "us" and "them"-into those entitled to safety, dignity, and rights, and those who can be stripped of these things simply because they crossed a border.
Our demonstration is part of the "Our Streets, Your Borders" campaign, organized jointly by the Anarchist Federation and 161 Crew. The campaign focuses on the discrimination faced by migrants and the ways the state and its institutions manage migration by employing a discourse of antagonism, fear, and ethnic supremacy.
We want to speak not only about isolated incidents of violence or discrimination but, above all, about their systemic roots. We want to address the regulations, procedures, and institutions that hinder people's ability to function, work, organize, and fight for their rights-as well as the restrictions that leave migrants particularly vulnerable to exploitation, dependency, and violence. Inequality does not begin or end with a slur shouted on the street; it is also embedded in the law, in migration policy, and in the way our shared life is organized.
Stoking fear of "the Other" is nothing new as a means of exercising power. Scaremongering about "migrants"-allegedly stealing jobs, driving up housing costs, causing a decline in the quality of life, or posing a security threat-serves to distract from the real causes of social problems. Instead of asking why so many people cannot afford housing, why employment is becoming increasingly precarious, why inequality is rising, and why access to basic services is becoming harder to secure, fingers are pointed at specific groups held responsible for these issues.
We reject this narrative! The problem is not people moving in search of a safe and dignified life. The problem is a system that exploits their precarious situation to control and exploit them more easily.
We do not want a world built on fear and suspicion.
We want a world where human rights do not depend on the passport one holds. A world where no one is treated as less valuable simply because they were born on the other side of a border. A world where one's place of birth does not determine the right to work legally, to have a home, to organize, and to live without the constant fear of deportation.
Our answer to the politics of fear is solidarity. We counter division with cooperation. We respond to nationalist slogans with the conviction that no border should define a person's worth.
We invite everyone who cares about the nature of our shared life to join us. We invite those who oppose racism and xenophobia, human rights activists, workers, migrants, socially engaged individuals, and everyone who believes that solidarity is stronger than division.
OUR STREETS, YOUR BORDERS.
EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL.
FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT.
