(en) France, UCL AL #346 - Anti-fascism, Germany: Bourgeoisie and far right hand in hand (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Sat, 9 Mar 2024 11:08:58 +0200

In Germany, a press article has just revealed the links between the right, the extreme right and the big bourgeoisie, in a project of "remigration" of German citizens. A few months before regional and European elections, will these revelations be enough to reverse the political dynamic? ---- On January 10, the German investigative media Correctiv revealed the presence of members close to the leadership of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Germany's main far-right party, alongside other neo-Nazi extremists at a meeting held in November in Potsdam, near Berlin[1].

The Austrian Martin Sellner, a figure of the radical identity movement, presented his expulsion project which could concern up to nearly 2 million people in North Africa, including foreigners and asylum seekers but also German citizens. The brown international is in full swing: Sellner, a neo-Nazi in his youth, is today close to the former Identitarian Generation and the New Right, and is inspired by concepts defended by Zemmour.

Sad memories
These revelations were particularly shocking, recalling in particular the Nazi plan to expel 4 million Jews in Madagascar in 1940. They triggered a wave of indignation in the country: more than 1.4 million people have demonstrated since on January 19 throughout Germany[2].

In some cities, such as Munich, the demonstrations could not even start because they were so massive. In addition to the demonstrations, many political leaders from the right, social democrats and left, religious representatives, and even coaches of the German football championship have called for mobilization against the AfD. A plan to ban the party is even being studied, based on the unconstitutionality of the party's positions.

One of the most striking elements is the presence, in addition to identitarians and self-confessed radicals, of members of the main right-wing party (the CDU) and big bourgeois people. In Germany as elsewhere, racism and fascism are the tools of the bourgeoisie and the far right its best ally.

Despite this popular anti-fascist momentum, the polls remain very good for the far-right party which is in second place in voting intentions in regional partial elections behind the conservative party, and even in first place in the former GDR, the poorest areas of the country where it has established itself best.

Further proof that moral and reactionary anti-fascism is not enough to reverse a trend. On the contrary, we must attack the roots of the progression of the far right, in particular poverty, the crisis of capitalism and the racist and anti-migrant discourses which have been developing for years. This is the only way that a massive, anti-fascist social movement can be built in the long term, in Germany as in France.
