(en) Italy, UCADI #182: Gaza: a genocide by pogrom (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Fri, 22 Mar 2024 09:38:08 +0200

The term genocide indicates the set of violent crimes committed against certain groups of individuals with the intent to destroy them and is carried out through the killing of members of a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, serious injuries caused to physical or mental integrity of members of the group, its submission to conditions of existence that lead to its physical destruction, total or partial, measures aimed at preventing new births within the group, an objective which can today be effectively pursued with mass bombings and indiscriminate which have the advantage of being an industrial tool compared to procured abortions, children sent to gas chambers, individual sterilizations.
To better implement a genocide, specific events were organized which took the name of pogrom, a Russian term meaning "to demolish or destroy with violent acts" with which a community was annihilated. As the Jewish people, who were victims of it, know well, the historical connotation of the term refers to the violent attacks against them by local populations. Participants in the pogroms were organized at the local level, sometimes with the encouragement of governments and the police. Those who participated raped and killed, then plundered their property. By Hamas on October 7 a pogrom was carried out against them after the holocaust, a scientifically planned genocide.
Since then a pogrom has been underway against the Palestinians of Gaza and, in other forms, against the native inhabitants of the occupied West Bank, which takes different forms depending on the location, with a scale and intensity that transforms it into genocide, given that the Israeli army acts to physically eliminate all the inhabitants of Gaza, as members of a national, ethnic and religious group, and inflicts serious injuries on them to the point of causing death, destroys the physical and mental integrity of the inhabitants of the It crawls, subjects them to conditions of existence that aim at their total physical destruction, while indiscriminate bombings nip life in the bud, or disable the living who survive.
The same action takes different forms in the West Bank, but uses partly different methods, such as arbitrary arrests, detention ordered by administrative measure, without trial, the destruction of houses, the seizure and expropriation of land which is transferred to the availability of settlers who, armed by the government, carry out acts of deterrence and retaliation against the Palestinians who inhabit the territory, depriving them of their lands, terrorizing them, shooting at them.
The state of Israel asks for solidarity for the fact of being the container that hosts the survivors of the Holocaust and the wandering Jews, expelled from their land since the edict of Trajan, relying on the bad conscience of the West which, steeped in anti-Semitism, has viewed with valor the return of the Jews to Palestine, facilitating it, in the belief that a moral and political problem was resolved. Yet the Jewish people should know that if it is true that the Jews were the object of the Holocaust, that a genocide of frightening magnitude was carried out against them, this does not make them different from other peoples who suffered similar violence, such as the Armenian one and the Kurdish one (unless you want to quibble about the methods used, the intensity, depth and cruelty with which the genocide was implemented).
The Jews are free to consider themselves the chosen people, but this is a religious belief that does not imply their superiority in rights, their moral nobility, their particular ethical sensitivity, proof of which is what they are doing in Gaza, literally applying the law of the retaliation, it has nothing to do with law.
It is time to stop accusing of anti-Semitism all those who criticize or deplore the genocide through pogroms that the Israelis have scientifically decided to practice on another people.
What has happened should certainly make members of the Jewish people aware of what it means to experience this tragedy firsthand, to suffer so much violence, and this should lead them not to behave like their persecutor murderers and understand that hatred and violence must be put to an end. , looking for the reasons for a possible coexistence.

They know well that, with difficulty, the horrors of history have led people and international law to adopt instruments condemning genocide, condensed in the 1948 United Nations Declaration on Human Rights, and they should be the first to respect. Reflecting on their history, the Jewish people know well that they have generously attempted to find tools for coexistence, identifying them in the kibbutz, but they must become aware of having missed the solution to the problem, distorting its solidarity meaning, when they selfishly decided to allow exclusively the affiliation to men and women of the Jewish religion, introducing paid work into the structure and therefore the exploitation of man by man, violating the community spirit.
A people who have had the courage to find within themselves the strength to plan open and supportive social relationships cannot accept being blocked by ethnic and religious prejudice and giving up being an example of coexistence in peace and solidarity in the name of Zionism.[1]

End the conflict

We are aware of the difficulties of interrupting the conflict and building peace after so many horrors. We are aware that the injury of the hostages presents itself as an insurmountable obstacle, together with the detention of thousands and thousands of Palestinians, often held for years in prison on the basis of administrative provisions transformed into acts valid indefinitely. But we know that the conflict must end and to do so a significant step could be the unilateral recognition by the United States first, and then by all the other countries, of the existence of a Palestinian state, as a subject of international law , even if this does not, at the moment, have a recognized and sovereign territory.
The concrete will of Russia and China to also act as guarantors of a solution to the conflict would thus be put to the test, all of this in the logic of a now multipolar world, where the United States cannot claim to be the only bulwark of stability. But a decision of this kind would have an even deeper meaning since it would force Israel to realize that its role as a sub-agent of American imperialism in the Middle East is over and that therefore its security lies in good relations with the countries that surround it and in the acceptance of the Palestinian ethnic entity, finally abandoning the fundamentalist and nationalist dream of the most extreme international Zionism which claims all of historic Palestine for the Jews, is unachievable.
If implemented, this choice would strengthen all those within the State of Israel who support the need to seek a negotiated solution; it would constitute a strong advantage for the current President of the United States who could, thanks to this proposal, receive the consent of that part of the democratic electorate that criticizes him for his unconditional support for Israel: he could find the favor of those Israelis and those Jews who do not want a genocide and are available to open dialogue.
From the creation, even if only virtual, of the Palestinian State, a process could begin that progressively leads to the restoration of acceptable living conditions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, also by providing for the eviction of the settlers who illegally and with irresponsible and criminal measures by the Israeli government have progressively occupied lands and properties not belonging to them. This would allow the necessary coexistence which is the only difficult solution to the conflict.
Let's be clear, the same procedure should be adopted with regards to the protection of the Kurdish people who would also have the right to a living space that guarantees them the possibility of building free institutions.

The global scenario

Giving a solution to the conflict is more necessary than ever because, as the facts demonstrate, the continuation of the conflict widens it, and even if for now a front has not opened on the border with Lebanon, the possibility of this happening is more possible than ever. What is certain is that in the meantime the conflict has spread to the Red Sea, where from the Yemeni coasts the Houthis strike and attack passing ships, effectively hindering world trade and causing serious damage to the economy of Egypt which sees a reduction in commercial traffic through the canal, as well as Europe and other countries interested in East-West trade which have to bear the greater costs for their economies that the circumnavigation of Africa entails, worsening the burden of an already difficult economic situation due to the growing indebtedness of various Western states and those of the European Union in support of the war in Ukraine.

To counter the Houthi attack, Western governments are preparing some war missions presented as defensive, but which in all respects constitute an extension of the conflict, effectively providing cover to those components of Israeli society that push towards its continuation of fighting.
These missions which operate with different rules of engagement are: the US-led operation Prosperity Guardianh which engaged the Houthis and had the effect of forcing 90% of the merchant traffic crossing the Red Sea to divert along the longest route around Africa. This US-led mission will incorporate the Spanish-led Atlas which will transform from a European mission to combat Somali piracy into a mission to defend merchant traffic headed to Israel or property attributable to Israeli interests; the European mission "Aspides" which has as its rule of engagement that of guaranteeing freedom and safety of navigation in the southern Red Sea, in the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb and in the Gulf of Aden. mission which, supported by Italy, France and Germany which will have its headquarters in Larissa in Greece and will have the coverage of radar sighting planes; a further operation is called Operation Sentinel led by France, whose range of action includes, in addition to the Gulf and Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Bab el Mandeb, with participation so far limited to Great Britain, South Korea and Israel (intelligence only).
As can be seen, the conditions for the expansion of the conflict are all there and all it takes is one incident to light the fuse and cause the conflict to explode.
