(en) Italy, FAI, Umanita Nova #10-26 - Via Giuseppe Pinelli Inaugurated. Milan: The Committee Wins the Battle. Pino Returns to His Neighborhood (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

As previously announced, the inauguration of the renaming of Via
Giuseppe Pinelli, formerly Via Micene, took place in Milan on March
19th. This proposal, put forward by the "A Street for Giuseppe Pinelli
Committee," received over 5,000 signatures and was approved by the City
Council. The street is located at the intersection of Via Preneste,
among the public housing projects in the San Siro neighborhood, where
Pino lived with his family. The ceremony was announced with the
participation of Mayor Giuseppe Sala, with an invitation extended to
Claudia and Sivia Pinelli and the Organizing Committee. Within the
Committee and the anarchist group that annually organizes the initiative
in memory of Pino on December 14th at the Spazio Micene, a debate arose
over whether or not to participate, given the ongoing conflict with the
current administration over its privatization policies, particularly in
the neighborhood itself. It was decided to participate with a shared
intervention-for which I was entrusted-focusing solely on the specific
topic of the state massacre and the killing of Pinelli, a intervention
intended as an indictment of the entire institutional spectrum. It
should be noted that, even before the signature collection, a plaque
bearing the title "Via Giuseppe Pinelli" had been placed beneath the
official one on Via Micene. Furthermore, communications about
initiatives held in the Spazio Micene always referred to Via Pinelli.
The evening before the inauguration, graffiti claiming the right to
housing had appeared on the façade where the new plaque was installed.
These graffiti were covered up by municipal maintenance on the morning
of the ceremony. It should be noted that in the days leading up to the
event, AMSA, the waste collection service, had been intensively involved
in cleaning up the streets and spaces throughout the entire area,
contrary to the usual practice in the neighborhood, which is left to
decay with filth and the accumulation of garbage and waste. The Micene
comrades patrolled the area to ensure that graffiti such as "No war is
ours" was not covered by the paintwork on the facades. San Siro Città
Pubblica had posted a poster demanding, in addition to the plaque for
Pinelli, the right to housing.
On the inauguration day, a large banner was displayed in the street,
half an hour before the start, reading "Pino Pinelli murdered, the
massacre is state-sponsored. Still without justice. San Siro does not
forget." Although the ceremony was scheduled for 3:00 PM, a time when
many are at work, there was a large attendance of spectators and
comrades, and many journalists were present. After the Mayor's speech,
he remembered Giuseppe Pinelli as the eighteenth victim of the Piazza
Fontana massacre, who died for his ideals, also recalling the tree in
his memory already placed in Piazza Segesta in the same neighborhood. My
speech followed, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, highlighting the
entire story of the State Massacre, in which Pino was the designated
victim: an indictment of the institutions' responsibilities, which was
applauded several times. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Claudia and
Silvia Pinelli spoke, recalling the places of their childhood, the last
day their father left home, and his integrity as an anarchist, partisan,
and railway worker engaged in social struggles. They thanked the city
and the Municipality for the recognition bestowed. After the speeches,
three trumpet masters from La Scala played the notes of "Addio Lugano
Bella." Significantly, after the ceremony, many of those present
remained in the street for a long time, discussing and commenting on the
event. I take this opportunity to announce the decision of Spazio Micene
to independently organize a large celebration on the same street to
celebrate the achievement of naming the street in memory of Giuseppe
Pinelli. The celebration, to which everyone is invited, will take place
on April 19th.
