(en) Italy, Sicilia Libertaria #459: On this side. Is it time for the black pope? (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Fri, 13 Jun 2025 09:02:39 +0300

On April 21st, at 7:35 am, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, aka Pope Francis, died. A great misfortune for the entire world, but especially for me: I had bought a ticket for the Parma-Juventus match, scheduled at the Tardini stadium for 8:45 pm, my flight left Catania at 1:05 pm, between the outward and return flight and the B&B for the night I had spent over 600 euros, but at 10:30 am the Serie A League decided to suspend all the matches scheduled for Easter Monday. So I didn't leave; when they announced the move to the 23rd it was too late. I lost my money and the opportunity to see my Juve live. I think you can understand the dismay, the confusion, the feeling of feeling the world collapsing on top of me, then aggravated by Juve's unfortunate defeat.

But let's go back to the other disastrous event of April 21, the death of the Pope. They were days of passion, difficult, sad, especially for the information; completely flattened by the mainstream narrative of a Bergoglio aligned with peace, against every war, with immigrants against the walls erected by states, with the poor and the marginalized. It's true, there have been many declarations in this sense, but the results? Terrible. The war in Ukraine, the genocide in Gaza, the conflicts in Africa, the anti-immigration policies, the gap between rich and poor are worsening, and those responsible don't give a damn about the papal positions, in fact they were the first to express condolences and many marched at his funeral. Few references to other clear positions, such as on gays, abortion, euthanasia, family, or on the resounding failures: pedophilia, finance, women, reform of the curia, etc.

The information fails to tell the simplest of truths: that of Pope Francis is pure fluff, holy, but still fluff. It will please the left-wing left, the orphans of the socialist revolution, rainbow pacifism, but the impact on reality of this rhetoric is zero. Preaching hope and hoping in prayer is a little too little to undermine the power of the scoundrels who decide the fate of the World, a power of which, above all, the Church is also part.

And the dance for the succession has already begun. Will it be the turn of the black pope? Not because of the color of his skin, but because of his political color, that is, more completely reactionary than Bergoglio, rhetorically more aggressive on wars, migrants, the environment, as Trump and the clerico-fascists of all schools like. Will continuity prevail, based on the preventive moves of the deceased in terms of appointments? Or will the conclave, sensing the impossibility of a certain victory for one of the parties, opt for a transitional choice, a balancing act, one of those forced decisions, however not free from surprises, since absolute power almost always goes to the head?

Until the next... smoke!
