(en) Italy, FDCA, Cantiere #34 - Against the barbarity of imperialist wars we respond with the weapons of class struggle and internationalist solidarity. (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Alternativa Libertaria/FdCA message to the international conference in Paris in May 2025 ---- The global situation, highly critical, is configured as follows. The change of strategic course of the American administration under the Trump presidency only partially modifies the terms of the conflict between imperialist powers, but it affects the general political framework of alliances, disrupting relations between NATO countries and in particular between the United States and European countries. The decision of the American president to abandon military support for Ukraine and the threat to introduce duties on European exports, particularly in the automotive sector, are tangible signs of this new strategic orientation of the United States. If under the Biden administration the goal was to weaken Russia's political-military weight through a proxy war, now, President Trump's strategic reversal has the purpose of recovering relations (political and commercial) with Russia to undermine the historic alliance with China and preemptively exclude the latter from the narrow circle of those who are preparing to redraw the new assets, areas of control and regions of influence at a global level. In this new scenario, Ukraine becomes the bargaining chip to define the terms of the new relations between the United States and Russia and the division of raw materials, in particular lithium, which the Ukrainian territory is rich in. The European countries, in fibrillation, still demonstrate their strategic inadequacy and are incapable of implementing shared political and military choices. The wobble of the alliance between Europe and the United States puts European states in serious difficulty, which, orphaned by American support, find themselves having to manage the "hot potato" of the war in Ukraine triggered by the aggression of Russian imperialism. If the difficulties in building a European military force are tangible, the new strategic framework is already producing an acceleration in the application of rearmament programs.

Meanwhile, in the Middle East, the United States continues to support Israeli and Turkish nationalism, weakening the alliance between Russia and the Shiite countries with the overthrow of the Syrian government of Bashar Al Assad. A regime change that would not have been so easy without the Israeli military interventions in Gaza and Lebanon that have produced, in addition to thousands of civilian victims and the genocide of the Palestinian people, a weakening of the armed formations of Hamas and Hezbollah, financed by Iran.

In the Middle Eastern context, it is worth mentioning the experience of "Democratic Confederalism" put into practice by the Kurdish community in the Rojava region and today threatened by the drones of the Turkish army and the pressure of the Syrian provisional government.

Democratic Confederalism, which draws inspiration from the thought of the anarchist philosopher Murray Bookchin on social ecology and libertarian municipalism, wants to overcome the concept of the nation state to develop a system based on a sustainable and supportive economy, on the emancipation and participation of women, on municipalism and self-defense. With all the limitations that the Middle Eastern situation imposes, we can argue that today this social experiment, inclusive and pluralist, represents the only serious attempt to overcome ethnic and religious divisions for the construction of a libertarian and self-managed society, an alternative to the proxy wars supported by imperialist powers and regional nationalisms. The growing protagonism of emerging countries that are gaining more and more economic strength, with a leading role for China and India, has important consequences on the redefinition of political and military balances in the various strategic areas of the world. It is unavoidable, as far as we are concerned, to remind everyone of the situation in which the African continent finds itself (since the time of the inexorable condemnation to eternal slavery inflicted on the "imprudent" Cam). Almost one billion and four hundred million people, a surface of over thirty million square kilometers, 54 countries; this neglected (mediatically) part of the planet perpetuates its role as the favorite target of the predatory instinct of imperialism of all colors.

In this climate of international destabilization, war is the instrument for the affirmation of a new "imperial stability" and the prospect of a world conflict is becoming increasingly threatening. The more than 50 conflicts spread throughout the world are the product of this fierce imperialist competition. The risk of the use of nuclear weapons is the order of the day and the race of states to increase military spending is now involving all the major world powers. The core of American foreign policy has as its priority the clash with China for economic and technological primacy that unfolds through the control of global supply chains in all its phases, from the supply of raw materials to production, from storage, transport and distribution to retail sales. If the bourgeoisie is divided on the international level, it finds its unity in the class struggle. The attack that is being waged against workers and proletarians, thanks to the support of national states, has the same objectives regardless of the context in which it is carried out: accumulating profits by increasing the exploitation and impoverishment of the proletariat. Added to all this is the increase in war spending that takes economic resources away from primary services, such as health or education, already heavily penalized by privatization policies, thus reducing the rights acquired as a result of workers' struggles in recent years. Meanwhile, the demonstrations of resistance to capitalist exploitation and the harmful effects it produces (wars, environmental disasters, etc.) find concrete expression in the struggles for the emancipation of the exploited; in the desertion of thousands of young people tired of suffering a war they do not feel is their own; in the initiatives to defend the territory from militarism and speculation. Against imperialist wars, the struggle and internationalist class solidarity must be relaunched. As libertarian communists we believe that internationalism is the only answer to capitalist madness because the exploited have no borders to defend but are united by common goals: to free themselves from capitalist exploitation that produces a society divided into classes, to emancipate themselves from the State that is its product, to build libertarian communism. But to achieve these goals we must relaunch the mass organizations, today hostage of concertative and interclassist currents, and their class autonomy; the unity of all the exploited must be built to bring back to the forefront the conflict between capital and labor and the awareness of the need to overcome the system of capitalist exploitation.

We must stop militarism and the threat of global destruction by supporting all deserters and by taking action to jam the war machine and by contributing, on the ground of political praxis, to the dissolution and overcoming of the clamorous contradictions that plague the exploited class everywhere, auspices of identity, ethnic, religious and nationalistic pathologies.

Without overcoming capitalism, the logic of competition, profit and its accumulation, there will be no possibility for human beings to take control of their own destinies for the construction of a society based on peace, freedom and equality.
