Ahoy, microbroadcasters and media activists!
As we're sure y'all know, it seems like the National Association of Broadcasters has finally lit a fire under the FCCs butt to sweep away the microbroadcasting movement. In the past few weeks, there have been as many busts as over the past few years since the Free Radio Berkeley court case. Our strategy in response to this must have many fronts. The first that we would suggest is a national day to call in to the FCC and tell them what we think of the new round of attacks on microbroadcasters. We suggest December 15th, a Monday, to give a little while to organize. By this Wednesday, we'd like to have this campaign in shape to send out to every microbroadcaster and media activist that we know of. We suggest as a starting point for discussion the following statement, which we would encourage all of our listeners and supporters to call in or e-mail to some appropriate target (chairman of the fcc, field offices of fcc, maybe congresspeople?):
I am a listener of micropower radio. I deplore the recent round of harrassment by the FCC against free radio stations. I insist that you stop attacking microstations until the constitutional questions surrounding radio regulation have been fully resolved in the courts.
We realize that there is some controversey even in such a simple statement as this one. We think it's not too much of a problem if local stations put their own spin on it, but we'd like to see us all bombard their office with calls and e-mail on the same day. We are not particularly attached to that exact statement- we'd welcome better ideas, but we should decide and act quickly. We also feel strongly that the basic message should be no longer that the one we suggested- this is no time for laundry lists and dissertations.
Of course, we are open to dialogue about whether a phone barrage is the best idea in the first place. Speak quickly or hold your peace, though. We can always rationalize that there will be a better time for actions like these in the future- It seems to us like this is a good moment for a show of our numbers, because soon they will be trying to pick us off like flies. The FCC has shown that they respond to pressure- they didn't start this campaign until the NAB pushed them into it, and they probably won't stop until we push them out of it.
tell us what you think- talk it up!

ps-what's up with the new fcc chairman- does anyone know if the attacks have to do with him? Is he a swing vote on this issue, or does he have commitments? I'm open to other targets for this campaign- and us hard core folks should go after all of them, but we should keep it to one or two calls that will make a difference for our listeners and supporters to make.
