(en) Greece, Landand & Freedom:[Larissa]The November 17th Uprising Remains Alive (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

In November 1973, perhaps the most important uprising in the country's
recent post-democratic history took place. 52 years ago, society emerged
from the dictatorship through the struggle for a life with dignity and
freedom. The Polytechnic University uprising was the trigger for the
beginning of social and class struggles, for the building of student
movements, for their radicalization and organization from below. A
trigger that was to pave the way for the uprising in December 2008.
Today, half a century later, it seems that nothing has changed from the
era before that day. Today, the regime of terrorism and fear from the
state and power plays a leading role in the lives of the plebeians every
day. Their effort to drain any trace of freedom, to suppress the
anxieties of the people and to degrade the value of life to the maximum
has been magnified by inhumane policies in all fields. The placement of
police inside universities and the criminalization of free spaces within
them, the constant targeting of students, -three because of their ideas,
the devaluation of the National Health System, the selling off of public
goods to their big business friends, the establishment of the 13-hour
workday are just a few of the suffering they generously offer us.
We live in an era where professors are prosecuted with disciplinary
measures because they dare to bring to light and openly and publicly
unfold the shabby educational system that the state and capital have
built, doctors are punished in their attempt to make known the
destruction of the public health system, a student is sentenced to 14
months in prison for writing a slogan of solidarity with Palestine on
the university wall.
We live in an era where in one of the country's greatest crimes, that of
the Tempi, the responsible rulers remain unpunished with the decision
not to prosecute them coming from themselves.
We live in an era where even the slightest movement to assert their
rights from below finds before it the cruel and non-negotiable face of
the state and power.
In the face of their war, the impoverishment of our lives, their thirst
for the subjugation of the fighters, their mania to disorient the social
body from any sensitivity, freedom and the need for a life with dignity,
we respond with organization and struggle. From the Polytechnic
Uprising, the student protests of '95, the uprising of '08, the events
of the rectorate of '22 and all the struggles that have been and will be
given in the future, we too stand in our turn on the street and with the
thought that this world can change.
