(en) France, UCL AL #364 - Antifascism - Obituary: He only counted for one, but he counted for many (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Fri, 14 Nov 2025 10:09:45 +0200

A longtime member of the Coordination of Anarchist Groups (CGA) and then of the UCL, our comrade Didier passed away on September 5th. It was impossible to cross the threshold of La Plume Noire, the bookstore and office of the Lyon UCL group, without being greeted by his smile. Didier was always faithful to his post during our office hours. He warmly welcomed everyone who entered looking for a book, a drink, or a discussion on the libertarian movement or the history of struggles. Because he knew local struggles well, having been involved in them for a long time. Didier was active in the CGT, notably in the Oullins local union, then in the NPA, and finally joined us, along with others at the time, in the Coordination of Anarchist Groups. He continued his activism with the creation of the Libertarian Communist Union and within our self-managed bookstore, La Plume Noire, becoming a pillar of this activist community.

Even weakened by illness, he was present at the office hours and demonstrations against pension reform. It is therefore particularly difficult for us not to feel a pang in our hearts as we return to work. The blockades, rallies, and demonstrations of this September have a different feel without him. But we take comfort in knowing that he would have been proud to see this wave of revolt.

Those who fight do not die.
We share the sadness of his family and loved ones, and we ourselves are deeply affected by his passing. But we will continue to keep him alive in our struggles and in this place he loved so much, La Plume Noire bookstore.

We were able to pay our last respects at the Oullins cemetery with his loved ones and during a drink at the Plume Noire, where reunions with former comrades provided an opportunity to reminisce. His family also reminded us of the importance of the Plume Noire for Didier through messages he sent them: "It's where I can talk, see 'camaros,' see people, and clear my mind and spirit, so I don't feel like a bear in a bush. Going to the Plume Noire is a comfort, a source of strength, and dynamism, and I really need it."

For our part, we will always remember his smile, his outrage and outbursts, his hat and mustache, and the impact he had on us, both individually and as a political group. As well as the phrase he loved to repeat: "I only count as one." Like his, our hearts are red and black today. Red with anger and black with sadness. But we remain standing, our fists raised, to shout and fight as he would have. And we will continue to bring our libertarian ideal to life through this self-managed space that is La Plume Noire.

"Those who fight don't die; they are present in each of our struggles, and in all the shadows that frighten the bourgeoisie!"
