Editorial: Booze, booze, gram... ...Drunk, drunk, ratatam! ---- Addiction is a thousand-headed hydra that too often makes us lose ours. Like the plethora of problems affecting our society - suffered by some, maintained by others - we must find a way to cope with it. ---- There are those that punctuate, modulate, and moderate our sociability. There are also others that, rather, detune it, fracture it. ---- Sometimes tangible, sometimes ethereal, often insidious, they are chemical, psychological, ideological, even religious: substances, habits, beliefs, and dogmas. We know them only too well... in others, in our own. ---- Too often, addiction phenomena complement, reinforce, intensify, and worsen each other through the combination of these elements. The fronts are multiple.

More traditional, there are those we call "soft" or "hard," or even "pharmaceutical": those that are drunk, inhaled, ingested, or injected.

More modern, there are also those we call "digital," "digital," or "technological": those we eye, ogle, scrutinize, click, and scroll through.

Some boast of being "recreational," others boast of being "therapeutic." Even so, sometimes the line is thin, even to the point of harmful addiction.

But addictions are a convenient excuse! They don't come out of nowhere. Let us not forget those who generate, disseminate, maintain, and adapt them-for their own benefit: to enjoy what we consume, what consumes us.

Libertarians, let us continue to analyze as thoroughly as possible the causes and conditions of addictions, in all their complexities, in order to better attack their roots and protect both the individual and the collective from their harmful effects.

The exercise remains subtle: walking a fine line without ever falling into either sterile moralizing or indifferent tolerance.
