Realistically, we cannot help but acknowledge that we are a tiny part of
the cosmic immensity, in the face of which we are irrelevant. Yet we
continue to refuse to fully understand this and persist in behaving as
if we were a major power at the center of the universe. Thus, a frank
discussion of power, understood as the will and exercise of domination,
becomes essential. A discussion pertaining to all types of power we are
forced to endure in every part of the world, from political to economic,
to the power of influence, etc. An imposition of domination that
manifested and took shape to harness the complexity of the system of
relationships between the many and varied components that make up
reality. In all the violent and oppressive forms in which it
systematically manifests itself, power as we know it originated with the
advent of patriarchy, a violent imposition by the male gender that
forcibly subjugated the female gender. Collaboration between the genders
was thus definitively disintegrated, to the point of irrelevance. Since
then, the female urge, tending to accept and cooperate, has irremediably
lived in a subordinate condition of inferiority, while the oppressive
male is the devastating figure that dominates the world, with all the
inevitable consequences of injustice, humiliation of rights and
freedoms, systematic demolition of ecological balances, generating
incessant destructive climate change and the seemingly unstoppable
extinction of biodiversity.
Andrea Papi (January 1949): anarchist freethinker, contributor to
anarchist and libertarian publications, and assiduous contributor to "A
rivista anarchica" (not published since summer 2020). Author of essays,
including Between Order and Chaos (Matzneller, Bolzano 1998), For a New
