(en) Greece, libertasalonica: March 8: Day of Resistance and Struggle | Feminist march: Thursday 8/3, 18:00, Kamara (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

"Our place in humanity as women is not to be won by pleading but by struggle." - Louise Michel ---- March 8, historically speaking, was established in 1910 after a series of women's collective and radical struggles. The demands of women workers, local and immigrant, who received land in the USA, mainly in the textile mills and factories of New York, led to unprecedented mobilizations and strikes. Those uncompromising women organized, claimed, clashed. They fought to be freed from the inhuman working conditions, grueling hours and meager wages they received. They fought for liberation from the oppressions and traditional roles assigned to them. All these struggles were not lost, since this day is a turning point for the active participation of women in class and social struggles.

What has been established, however, to be the 8th of March today? The capitalist system has indulged in the monetization of social movements and uprisings. It is a common practice that aims to assimilate all forms of resistance and opposition to power, until they end up essentially harmless to its rule. Therefore, we are not at all surprised by the fact that this day was established simply as a "woman's holiday". It is a despicable attempt to attribute an institutional dimension to women's struggles and to demystify any of their class and radical characteristics.

So no, March 8th is not for us the women's day, that is, a day in which the woman is rewarded for her role as a good wife, mother and housewife. It is not a celebration to highlight capitalist standards of beauty. Not another celebration of consumerism and commercialization where bouquets and cards are sent to all the "ladies".

March 8 is a historical achievement of the women of our class, a day of resistance and struggle that was, is and will continue to be an inspiration for all victims of gender violence, for all abused femininities who found the courage to speak, for every worker who while she is annihilated every day at work, she also has to face a mental annihilation, that of constant underestimation by her male colleagues or bosses, for every imprisoned fighter who is punished for her ideals and socio-political action, for every immigrant and incarcerated in concentration camps, for those who struggle to get rid of all forms of oppression. It is an inspiration for all those who struggle against the monster of patriarchy, but also of any other power.

The role of the state in shaping social relations is wrongly underestimated, because in the case of gender-based violence, the problem presented as an isolated form of oppression, a "symptom of the times", is shifted between the male-female/ruler-ruled subjects and is not treated as a resulting phenomenon of the state-capital partnership. In other words, it is hidden, once again, that as long as capitalism exists, every power relationship will be mobilized with the decisive contribution of the state, for the benefit of capital. However, we know very well that patriarchal violence has always been used as a tool to fragment the social base, with the ultimate goal of enslaving it.

No one, therefore, can dispute the existence of patriarchy in every aspect of women's lives.

Sexual harassment in public space and speech has become a daily routine for all women: on the street, on the bus, in the squares, with whistles and gestures, with rhetoric that explains that the victim "wanted it and got it", because she was dressed provocatively and with "tips" on how to be careful about where and how women move around.

Therefore, the struggle against patriarchy, gender violence, sexism and homophobia is directly intertwined with the struggle against the state and capitalism. Women's emancipation can only come through the organization and collectivization of oppressed subjects. All the hells of this earth must join forces, stand in solidarity with each other and raise their stature against gender discrimination and the system that breeds it. We as anarchists must support these struggles and fight our own battle for the abolition of all forms of power. To continue our struggle, so that on the ruins of the rotten capitalist system we can build a world of real equality, freedom and mutual aid.
