Eight years after the first climate strikes began, Europe has 
experienced one of its most extreme summers in terms of climate impact. 
Faced with government resignation, we can take action through our own 
political strength! ---- The effects of climate breakdown have hit 
France harder than ever. The consequences are not distributed equally: 
while everyone has been affected in some way, it is once again the least 
privileged who bear the brunt. Everyone...? Perhaps not members of the 
government, given the succession of environmental setbacks. To cite just 
two examples: the emergency agricultural law encourages water grabbing 
and increased pesticide use, while regarding transport, the government 
is pushing ahead with major, unnecessary road projects (A69, A412, etc.) 
and simultaneously slashing the National Cycling Plan budget by four-fifths.

When the environmental movement marches politely, its voice is drowned 
out by capital's demand for ever-increasing production. When the 
environmental movement opposes the appropriation of resources-such as 
the water at Sainte-Soline-it is criminalized. It is clear that the 
logic of profit continues to take precedence, exacerbating the effects 
of climate breakdown by transforming natural landscapes.

Climate emergency: collective organization!

Faced with the ecological catastrophe into which our capitalist economic 
system is plunging us, we have no choice but to reclaim economic power. 
Indeed, even if a left-wing government takes office in 2027, action will 
still be required, because the power to decide what is produced-and 
how-will remain in the hands of capital. The only way to challenge the 
bourgeoisie's immense decision-making power is to equip ourselves to 
regain control over production choices.

Acting as a citizen is good, but acting as a producer (or future 
producer) of goods or services is better. We do not have to wait for the 
government to decide to act. Taking our future into our own hands begins 
with building our own power directly in our workplaces or places of 
study. Most of us are wage earners, so it is possible to join a union 
today and put ecological issues on our union's agenda. Ecological 
struggles have shown us that the most effective campaigns are built 
through alliances with unions ready to take action from the workplace. 
This also applies to the agricultural sector-which is on the front lines 
of droughts and wildfires-where joining a union is essential, whether it 
be the *Confédération Paysanne* or organizations representing 
agricultural workers. Finally, capital organizes on an international 
scale, and the struggles we wage locally often fight the same enemy as 
workers and residents elsewhere in the world. We must participate in 
building organization and forging ties and alliances among ourselves; 
while this is a long-term endeavor requiring dialogue and the building 
of trust, it is vital for shifting the balance of power against those 
who would watch the planet burn for the sake of their own profits.

So, to avert catastrophe: UNION, ACTION, SELF-MANAGEMENT!
