(en) Italy, FAI, Umanita Nova #25-26 - General Strike on October 30 / Demonstrations on October 31. The anarcho-syndicalist international promotes a mobilization against wars. (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The ICL-CIT, an international organization to which the *Unione
Sindacale Italiana* (USI) belongs, has issued a call for two days of
mobilization against militarism and all wars. --- USI-CIT supports the
call from the international organization of which it is a part, sharing
its concerns regarding the current global situation and the policies of
the Italian government-policies that fail to oppose ongoing wars and, in
some cases, legitimize or even facilitate them. --- USI calls a general
strike for October 30, 2026, covering all public and private sector
employees for the entire day.
We strike against militarism, against rising military spending and arms
production; against the war economy and the resulting deterioration of
working conditions; against arms exports-whether sold or transferred for
free-particularly to countries involved in conflicts; and against the
militarization of society.
We strike for the elimination of military spending and the investment of
the resulting savings into social policies-healthcare, education, public
housing, and all aspects of the welfare state; for the withdrawal of all
military deployments abroad; and for the demilitarization of society: no
more military presence in schools or on the streets!
For firefighters, the strike applies only to the first shift; workers in
the following sectors are excluded from this strike call: local public
transport, air transport, rail transport, and maritime transport. We
invite militant trade unions active in these transport sectors to issue
a similar call for a general strike on the same day. The international
organization behind this mobilization-the ICL-CIT (International
Confederation of Labour)-was established at the International Congress
of anarcho-syndicalist organizations held in Parma in 2018.
Current CIT members include the trade union organizations USI (USI CIT
Italy), CNT (Spain), IWW-NARA (North America), IP (Poland), FAU
(Germany), CNT-F (France), IWW-WISERA (Great Britain), ESE (Greece), and
FORA (Argentina). FOB (Brazil) and FGWM (Myanmar) have also recently
applied for membership. The CIT is grounded in the principles of
anarcho-syndicalism as defined in its statutes, consistent with the
founding principles of the First International, which held that
"emancipation will be the work of the workers themselves." Anna Gussetti
(USI CIT) currently serves as Secretary; her two-year term is now
drawing to a close in accordance with the principle of rotation, and the
role of the Secretariat is set to pass to IP (Poland).
We are facing a grave international situation in which the arms industry
and the arms trade are dictating policies that serve their own profits,
fueling increasingly dangerous and expanding wars-risking humanitarian
catastrophe-and causing the progressive impoverishment of the working
class. Against this backdrop, CIT-affiliated organizations have approved
a proposal by USI to launch an international mobilization against war.
The CIT's extraordinary congress will take place in Italy-specifically
in Massenzatico, in the province of Reggio Emilia-from September 25 to
27. We asked comrade Anna Gussetti-who is concluding her term as CIT
Secretary representing the USI this September-what she considers to be
the significant achievements of this period: "During this time, the
Confederation has focused on providing concrete support-including
financial aid-for struggles waged at the national level by individual
CIT unions (and others), and in some instances, we have launched
mobilizations involving multiple countries. The clear value of these
initiatives has also helped increase the number of unions affiliated
with the international." We then asked about expectations for the
extraordinary CIT Congress taking place at the end of September: "The
USI called for the extraordinary Congress primarily to resolve certain
internal organizational issues. The CIT's functioning is rather
cumbersome-as is to be expected in a federalist, libertarian
organization-but at times, its mechanisms risk unduly hindering
initiatives."
We therefore consider it appropriate to streamline certain procedures.
But expectations go beyond that. We hope the Congress will also serve to
foster debate among comrades regarding future prospects-both for the
International itself and concerning our approach to increasingly
pressing global issues. While no formal resolutions can be adopted on
these topics-since such matters must be discussed within the individual
affiliated national unions-we can lay the groundwork for the next
productive ordinary Congress. It is also important to take stock of the
preparations for the international anti-war mobilization promoted by the
CIT, scheduled for two days in late October. Significantly, the
observers attending the Congress will include a trade union delegation
from the Palestinian PPSWU; this testifies to USI's commitment to the
cause and the international interest sparked by our mobilization
efforts, such as our stance against war. Furthermore, the Massenzatico
Congress will see the handover of the secretariat from USI to IP
(Poland); the opportunity to carry out this transition in person is an
added value to which I attach great importance." We then asked for an
opinion on the goal of the international anti-war mobilization decided
by the CIT: "When a dispute begins, the goal is to win it-which in this
case means wiping war off the face of history! I must admit that is
rather ambitious... More modestly, we want the world of labor to let
everyone know that workers oppose war-all wars-which have always
brought, and continue to bring, death and misery." "Those who have lived
through a war know this well." We present below the appeal from USI CIT
Secretary Eotilia Ratta (Lia): "As is well known, warmongering choices
are becoming increasingly frequent-driven by colonial operations,
resource appropriation, and other motives that are certainly not noble.
The CIT has collectively decided to consolidate the anti-militarist
struggles-which our various sections organize in their respective
countries-into a single weekend (October 30-31) to ensure greater
visibility and, consequently, greater effectiveness. We call upon all
trade unions and social movements committed to opposing war and arms
production to participate. We do so based on ethical grounds, but also
because war policies impoverish workers and deprive them of essential
services-regardless of whether their own country is directly involved in
a conflict. We want a world free from weapons and armed conflict, and we
will fight for this, certain that it is an achievable goal! Let us
remember how many battles were once deemed impossible to win, yet were
ultimately won through struggle. The greater the participation at both
national and global levels, the greater our chances of victory!"
Finally, an invitation is extended to the Antimilitarist Assembly and
the IFA (International of Anarchist Federations) to support this
internationalist mobilization against war.
