(en) Italy, FAI, Umanita Nova #24-26 - Storming the Future. A Look Back at the "Fai Festa" in Carrara (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Carrara hosted a decentralized festival organized by the Anarchist
Federation: a three-day event-from July 10 to 12-spanning the city, the
mountains, and the realm of memory. It was a traveling celebration
moving between Carrara and Gragnana, featuring excursions, debates, and
social gatherings. Rather than being confined to a single square, the
festival was spread across the territory, highlighting the ongoing
relevance of a movement that, in Carrara, has never been merely a matter
of history. The three days were divided between the city and the
mountains. Mornings were dedicated to excursions: Saturday saw a tour of
the city center, visiting monuments, plaques, historic headquarters, and
sites that tell the story of the unbreakable bond between Carrara and
anarchism-a living, open-air museum. Sunday took participants to
Campocecina, along the trails of the partisan resistance where Carrara's
anarchists fought against Nazi-fascism. Anarchist publishing played a
major role in the festival, with stalls brimming with books, pamphlets,
and other materials. From reissues of classics to new publications on
transfeminism, antimilitarism, and the movement's history, it served as
a vital hub for exchange and dissemination. The heart of the festival
beat in the late afternoon, with debates that drew large, engaged crowds
despite the heat. Friday, July 10: The Genoa G8, 25 Years Later.
Twenty-five years after the events of July 2001 in Genoa, the festival
offered a collective recounting of that experience. It was not an
exercise in nostalgia, but an open question: what remains of that
movement, and what does it tell us about the struggles of the present
and future? Saturday, July 11: Anarchism and Transfeminism. A dialogue
between different voices for an essential encounter. This necessary
debate centered on bodies, self-determination, and the fight against the
patriarchy, while also exploring how anarchism questions and transforms
itself through transfeminist practices-and vice versa. Sunday, July 12:
the need for antimilitarism. In these times of war and rearmament, we
explore experiences of struggle against war and those who arm it-from
campaigns against military bases and arms factories to the logistics
routes of death.
And then, on all three evenings, there was what anarchists consider not
merely a side attraction but the very substance of the event: excellent
food, conviviality, self-managed camping, and music featuring local
bands *We Love Surf* and *Suonificio Popolare Apuano*, as well as the
brilliant Alessio Lega with Guido Baldoni. With self-run kitchens,
communal dining, and late-night concerts, it was a truly self-organized
festival attended by dozens of people from all over Italy. For the local
*Germinal* anarchist group, it was a significant moment of
growth-despite the exhaustion that always accompanies such events, which
was eased by the festival's success and the smiles of the comrades, the
true highlight of these three days. A big thank you to all the comrades
who worked so hard to organize the event.
