The unions USI-Sanità and CUB Sanità have been in conflict with the 
administration of San Raffaele Hospital (OSR) since the beginning of 
2025. Initially, this struggle was waged jointly with the RSU (Unitary 
Union Representation); however, from January 2026-following an agreement 
that USI and CUB refused to sign, deeming it grossly inadequate and 
discriminatory-they found themselves alone in demanding better working 
conditions and pay. (It is worth noting that OSR applies the AIOP 
collective agreement, which is far less favorable than the public 
healthcare collective agreement.) Their demands also included the 
insourcing of outsourced services and departments, as well as the 
granting of permanent contracts to precarious workers.
The media attention surrounding cases of medical malpractice at OSR was 
facilitated-if not made possible-by this ongoing state of mobilization.
A strike was called for May 18, 2026, followed by two consecutive days 
of action on June 25 and 26.
In July, the administration used a pretext to issue a formal 
disciplinary charge against Margherita Napoletano-a CUB delegate and RSU 
coordinator-and subsequently fired her.
Clearly, this is an attack on the unions in conflict with management; at 
the first opportunity, they disproportionately targeted a representative 
from one of the two unions.
USI and CUB responded immediately, demanding the dismissal be revoked 
through various initiatives and a permanent protest presence within the 
hospital grounds.
The Director of the Lombardy Region's Health Department also attempted 
to mediate, but OSR responded by reaffirming its decision to stand by 
the firing. It goes without saying that this dismissal is not merely an 
attack on an individual worker and unionist, but a direct assault on the 
organizations daring to speak out against OSR-an institution whose 
shortcomings jeopardize patient care safety.
Retaliatory dismissals are not unique to the OSR administration; they 
are a practice found in many workplaces. Consequently, the OSR branches 
of the USI and CUB unions have decided to organize a city-wide march 
that symbolically links several similar cases that have occurred recently.
On September 19 at 10:00 AM, the march will set off from the corner of 
Via Palestro and Via Marina and head to Piazza Cavour-home to various 
news agencies and daily newspapers-to highlight the repression faced by 
journalists who do not toe the establishment line. It will then pass 
along Via Senato, in front of the headquarters of GKSD (the owner of 
Milan's San Raffaele Hospital), and proceed to La Scala Theatre, where
