(en) Brazil, OSL: Argentina and Brazil: Unity of the working class against the offensive of capital (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

We express our unwavering solidarity with the Argentine working class
and all sectors in struggle who are confronting in the streets the labor
reform project presented by the ultraliberal government of Javier Milei,
which seeks to make the working and living conditions of the Argentine
people more precarious. The proposal was approved this morning by the
Argentine Chamber of Deputies and will return to the Senate.
Since February 11, tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the
streets in Argentina to say no to the labor reform that the Milei
government is trying to impose. Yesterday, a general strike was called
to try to block the proposal. The government's response was police
repression, with rubber bullets, tear gas and dozens of arrests, in a
way of criminalizing the social struggle.
The reform underway in Argentina severely attacks historical rights: it
facilitates dismissals and reduces compensation; it institutes a time
bank with shifts of up to 12 hours without overtime pay; it allows
vacations to be split into only seven days; It establishes
company-specific agreements with fewer rights than collective bargaining
agreements; and restricts the right to strike.
Meanwhile, in Brazil, the 2017 labor reform, implemented by Temer,
maintained by Bolsonaro, and preserved by Lula/Alckmin, continues to
generate damaging effects. And new attacks are mounting: the opinion of
the Attorney General's Office, signed by Paulo Gonet at the beginning of
this month, defends the use of independent contractors (known as
"pejotização" in Brazil) and removes the Labor Court's jurisdiction to
recognize fraud, benefiting companies that have already transformed 4.8
million employees into independent contractors. At the same time, the
proposed constitutional amendment (PEC) that aims to end the 6x1 work
schedule risks being distorted in Congress by maneuvers of the Centrão
(a group of center-right political parties) and Bolsonaro's
parliamentarians, who want to further flexibilize the CLT (Consolidation
of Labor Laws) in the name of "free enterprise," leading to more
precariousness and insecurity for workers.
The offensive is the same: capital has no borders and attacks in a
coordinated manner in Latin America. Therefore, the struggle of
Argentine workers is also our struggle. In both Argentina and Brazil,
only street pressure, mobilization, and class independence can stop the
advance of neoliberalism. Therefore, it is also necessary to build
bridges of unity between the struggles of Brazilian and Argentine
workers against the common enemy.
The struggle in Argentina is yet another battle in a broader war against
the offensive of capital against labor throughout Latin America. We
stand with the Argentine workers in this trench!
