---- The geographical space of the Eastern Mediterranean, with the
enormous symbolic weight represented by the presence of places linked to
the Abrahamic religions, came under the control of Great Britain in
1918, which wrested it from the Ottoman Empire, defeated in the First
World War.
We will attempt to unravel the events that followed that event,
highlighting similarities and differences with the decolonization
processes of that era, marked by massacres, ethnic cleansing, and mass
exoduses in various corners of the planet.
Following the lines of borders drawn with a ruler but soaked in blood,
we will try to grasp the various stages that have led to the current
situation. A situation that, in the Eastern Mediterranean, mirrors
processes found everywhere on the planet.
Processes that, with varying degrees of violence, shape our time.
Our perspective is not neutral, because, by siding with the oppressed
and exploited, we place ourselves among those fighting to abolish
states, borders, and armies.
