Just a quick calendar note for micropower activists: NAB RadioWeek for 22 December 1997 says that William Kennard is to speak at the FCC Chairman's Breakfast at the National Association of Broadcasters' convention Tuesday morning, April 7, 1998, at the Las Vegas (Nevada) Hilton. This may be an opportune time to organize a protest, particularly after Kennard's expression of concerns about getting alternative voices on the air.

"I am personally very concerned that we have more outlets for expressions over the airwaves...I have made it a point of my tenure here as chairman to try to spotlight the fact that the broadcast industry is consolidating at a very rapid pace. And as a result of this, there are fewer opportunities of entry by minority groups, community groups, small businesses in general. And I'm very interested in hearing ideas to remedy the unfortunate closing of opportunities for a lot of new entrants." -FCC Chairman William Kennard quoted in the 8 December 1997 _New York Times_ (Quote courtesy of New York Free Media Alliance, http://artcon.rutgers.edu/papertiger/nyfma/ZAP.HTML )

It will be important to remind Chairman Kennard of this as he sits down to breakfast with corporate broadcast industry lobbyists who see microradio as a direct threat to their interests.
