PLEASE NOTE: I do not [personally] in any way mean to imply that things are at all well in Latin America! or that things have given way to "new freedoms" at all; but this article was a good example of some mainstream coverage of the fight against the School of the Americans, nonetheless.
*Many* exceptions remain, and not as noted in that article!
More on this as possible; but for example: I heard just this evening about how *really_bad* it is in the "FREE TRADE ZONES" of Nicaragua - just ask any 6 year-old there (not the corporate-hired "observer!") and you'll hear how horrrendous the conditions are for the slave-wage workers making garments for US outlets...
