In the summer of 1995, in British Columbia, the RCMP laid seige to a small group of native sovereigntists in the biggest RCMP para-military operation in Canadian history, which has become known has the "Gustafsen Lake Crisis". It ended in a year-long criminal trial and the conviction of 15 people, 13 of whom received prison terms. The Elder, Wolverine received the longest sentence of six years. In the video ABOVE THE LAW we will see the military build-up of the RCMP, their use of land mines, their attempted assassinations, and interviews with defense lawyer Bruce Clark, political prisoner Wolverine, and spokespersons for the Free Wolverine Campaign. This film shows the determination of the Canadian government to undermine and eliminate any movement of native people that fights uncompromisingly for their self-determination and sovereignty.
