Monday, Nov. 3, 1997 San Diego, CA

New Years trip to Chiapas,Mexico application and fee deadline extended until Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997.

On December 27, 1997 at 4pm the "Caravan of Hope" will leave Mexico City by bus bound for Chiapas.

After traveling to the Zapatista civilian center of Oventic Aguascalientes II in the highlands of Chiapas, the volunteers will work alongside hundreds of indigenous rebels in a concentrated construction effort for the first autonomous, indigenous junior high school in Mexico. In addition, participants will join in the anniversary celebrations on Jan. 1, 1998 marking the beginning of the insurrection in Chiapas. The bus caravan will arrivve back in Mexico City late in the afternnon on Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998.

Donations to purchase construction materials are vital. Individuals interested in selling "bonds" or working in another way to raise money for the school should call (619) 232-2841.
