Join the international construction team working to build the first autonomous, indigenous junior high school in Chiapas. Participate in the 1998 New Years' anniversary celebration of the Zapatista insurrection. Live in the Zapatista civilian cultural center of Oventic Aguascalientes II. Work on school construction under the direction of Mayan rebels beside international volunteers and Indian people from throughout the highlands of Chiapas. Optional travel by bus caravan between Mexico City and Chiapas.
Respect for cultural diversity and dedication to social justice and peace vital; no other special skills are required.

***** Time line: October, 1997: Purchase your own air tickets to Mexico City. Nov. 1, 1997: $150 Donation / deposit deadline. Nov. 15, 1997: Application due. Dec. 1, 1997: Fee deadline. Orientation packets mailed. Dec. 27, 1997: Bus caravan leaves Mexico City for Chiapas. Jan. 3, 1998 Return bus arrives in Mexico City.
Note: Discount airline tickets to and from Mexico City around the New Years period sell out very quickly. Make your reservations TODAY if you plan to fly into Mexico City. Also is you wish to fly to Chiapas rather than traveling by bus you should purchase tickets immediately. Even the most expensive seats will probably sell out before Thanksgiving!
***** Cost $390 Includes bus transportation between Mexico City and Chiapas, full translations of all meetings, rustic food and lodging in Oventic Aguascalientes II, orientation packet, administrative fee, and a construction donation to the Zapatista Junior High School of Hope.
