(en) Germany, Open Call! - Anarchist Perspectives on Community by agdortmund (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Sun, 23 Nov 2025 08:01:01 +0200

The deadline for this open call is 11:59 PM on November 28, 2025. ---- Open call for illustrations, linocuts, poems, essays, texts, cartoons, short stories. ---- Community is the utopia of the individualistic 21st century in Central Europe and the US. The concept is charged with wonderful ideas such as: chosen family, security, mutual aid, common identity, shared support, and care. It is the warm, bright, and pure place we all yearn for. It is the place where we can finally arrive and be ourselves.

The reality of lived community/community is usually drastically different. Apart from internet portals, forums, or accounts that give individuals a sense of belonging, there isn't much community. Instead, most people face isolation. When people do come together in groups, social violence takes hold relatively quickly, whether it's in shared flats, shared apartments, or small families. Community, therefore, appears like a sharp sword. Do we injure ourselves, or is it the solution to the Gordian knot that shackles us?

We have the following thematic suggestions for a direction. Want to go in a different direction? We'd be happy to hear it!

Why do we need (more) community?
What are the problems and frustrations we've encountered in our search for community?
How does our personal positioning influence our relationship to community(s)?
What might an anarchist critique of community or individuality look like?
How do conflicts and conflict resolution work in communities?
What are the boundaries of communities?
What are the characteristics of digital and analog communities?
What are the expectations of communities and of communities?
How do community and society interact?
How do we deal with enforced communities?
We welcome your approach to the topic in a variety of ways. Political texts, short stories, poems, collages, paintings or illustrations, comics, or any other form of art or text are welcome. We would be especially pleased if we had the honor of hosting your first publication. Overall, we aim to create low-threshold access to the topic. We look forward to your contribution.

If you find it difficult to motivate yourself to write a text on your own, you are welcome to register for the joint writing workshop. We will be organizing this on November 29, 2025, in Dortmund. Register at agdo@riseup.net. There will also be an open preliminary discussion on November 6, 2025, at 6 p.m. for the writing workshop.

We plan to publish the contributions digitally and in print in a brochure, which we will print using a Risograph.
