The conference organized to mark the eightieth anniversary of the 
founding of the Italian Anarchist Federation, which took place in 
Carrara during the Congress held from September 15 to 19, 1945, took 
place on Saturday, October 11th and Sunday, October 12th, in the foyer 
of the Animosi Theater in Carrara. The conference, entitled "Anarchism. 
A Global and Italian History 1945-2025," brought together around twenty 
scholars, researchers, and activists who presented papers on a variety 
of topics: from the role of anarchism in Republican Italy to the 
transnational geographies of Italian anarchism, from the relationship 
between anarchism and social movements to that with trade unionism and 
social conflicts.

The conference ranged from specifically historical to more current 
topics, presenting the complex history of Italian anarchism, including 
moments of crisis and development linked to the growth of social 
consciousness and the development of mass movements. This was addressed 
on the first day, while the second focused on issues related to new 
digital technologies, the militaristic and warmongering choices of 
governments, the environmental crisis, and the development of 
transfeminist movements. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, the conference 
addressed the relationship with the labor movement, exploring both 
historical perspectives and the concrete emergence of grassroots 
unionism, anarcho-syndicalism, and the struggles of what has been called 
the new working class.

The event thus filled a void in Italian historiography, which, in 
retracing social conflicts, has systematically ignored the role of 
anarchism, especially organized anarchism. Likewise, the section 
dedicated to current events confirmed the role of anarchism, both as a 
reference for practices of struggle and organization for grassroots 
movements and as a critique of government not this or that government, 
but specifically a critique of the social model based on domination, and 
therefore a critique of government as such.

Several hundred people attended the conference over the two days, so it 
was necessary to equip the Teatro di Terra with a special connection to 
accommodate those unable to find seats in the hall and allow them to 
attend the proceedings. Delegations from the Iberian Anarchist 
Federation and the Francophone Anarchist Federation were present at the 
conference, while the secretariat of the International of Anarchist 
Federations, unable to attend, sent warm greetings.

On Saturday, at the close of the session, a procession took place from 
the Animosi Theater to Piazza Matteotti, home to the historic 
headquarters of the "Germinal" group, in the foyer of the Politeama 
Theater. The theater has been closed since 2008 due to a structural 
failure that affected the entire building, including the Germinal 
headquarters, due to real estate speculation. On the fence surrounding 
the building and blocking access, a group of young artists from Carrara 
painted a mural with the words "Italian Anarchist Federation - Our 
homeland is the whole world, our law is freedom."

That evening, the concert "Accordi libertari" took place at the ARCI 
Fuori Luogo, kindly provided. Alessio Lega, Riccardo Dodi, Marchi 
Marletti, Avanzi di Galera, and the Fatica e Sudore Philharmonic 
Orchestra performed an evening that captivated and thrilled the large 
audience.

Special thanks to the speakers and session coordinators, who did not 
request any travel reimbursement.

Finally, heartfelt thanks to the comrades of the Germinal group who made 
the conference a complete success.

In short, Carrara once again confirmed that anarchy is harmony, while 
chaos is the product of institutions and private property.
