(en) Italy, Umanita Nova #24-25 - Eastern Europe: Stop the Rearmament, Stop the War (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The growing tensions in Eastern Europe, within the context of the war in
Ukraine that has been ongoing for more than three and a half years,
confront us with a concrete risk of the conflict spreading to
neighboring countries - or, at the very least, of further militarization
of borders with greater international involvement. ---- The invocation
of Article 4 of the NATO treaty by Poland and Estonia, following the
incursion of Russian Federation aircraft into their airspace, has
already led to increased involvement of EU countries in the war in
Eastern Europe, with the activation of NATO's "Eastern Sentry"
operation, only a few months after NATO launched "Baltic Sentry" earlier
this year.
Italy has for years deployed its troops from the Baltic to the Black
Sea, totaling 3,503 soldiers, 1,155 land vehicles, 3 naval units, and 23
aircraft. Any further commitment by the Italian government to this new
operation would therefore mean another military intervention in a
context where the Italian armed forces are already fully engaged. The
struggle against overseas military missions thus becomes central to
opposing Italian interventionism in this war.
This struggle is even more important considering that, starting this
year, the government has effectively been granted carte blanche to send
a "Force of very high and highest operational readiness" on missions.
It is more urgent than ever to intensify anti-militarist initiatives -
both by resisting the warmongering policies supported by the government
and the main opposition parties, and by campaigning against rearmament.
