(en) Italy, FAI: Motion approved: Anarchy and Transfeminism BREAK DOWN PATRIARCHY, SHATTER GENDER, LIBERATE BODIES (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Fri, 17 Oct 2025 09:56:33 +0300

The transfeminist movement, which has emerged forcefully in society in recent years, has significantly transformed traditional feminism, anchored primarily in the goal of gender equality, challenging the binary order and thus enacting a radical critique of patriarchy. The establishment and expansion of transfeminist and queer movements is increasingly essential in the face of intensifying patriarchal oppression in the current era, in which, in various parts of the world, its ties to religious oppression are increasingly strong. In Italy, the Meloni government has enacted specific patriarchal and familist legislation to support birth rates within the traditional family. Familism and the defense of the traditional, sexist, and hierarchical family, however, are not solely the legacy of the reactionary right; a familism also exists in the tradition of the left. Patriarchy represents one of the fundamental cruxes of social oppression.
The exploitation of dominant sexual bodies over dominated sexual bodies predates capitalist exploitation and cannot be overcome automatically by overthrowing capitalism, but only through a transformation of social relations that parallels the simultaneous economic and social transformation. The gender issue is not something to be resolved "afterward." We reject a two-track politics. We reject any form of binarism that, with the rigid division of roles based on male and female sexes, represents, based on a presumed naturalness, the justification for the hierarchy on which patriarchy is founded. We believe that transfeminism represents a space for a radical critique of patriarchy, where anarchism can express its content by effectively connecting with ongoing struggles and promoting demands corresponding to prospects for real social change through libertarian methods. However, there are some critical issues, not unique to the transfeminist movement, which can sometimes be identified in an identitarian positioning (not generalized but still widespread) that tends to grant legitimacy to intervention only to those experiencing specific oppressions, relegating others deemed "privileged" to a position of uncritical support. We believe this delegitimization must be dismantled to affirm, against all identitarianism, an inclusive and plural universal and to continue to affirm the practice of solidarity, forging meaningful alliances. It is important to proceed with a process that allows for an anarchic, original, and revolutionary approach to reflection on gender, promoting concrete initiatives that seek to further radicalize transfeminist struggles and demands. We therefore recognize the need to adopt a transfeminist critique in the various campaigns and interventions that the FAI may decide to launch within the context of various social struggles, as well as to promote transfeminist action against the specific sexist policies implemented by the government, which increasingly consolidate the division of labor based on gender, discrimination, and the denial of freedom of choice over one's own body. This includes, for example, policies on birth rates, the fight against abortion, contraception, and sexual education, the cuts to social services, and the security-based response to sexual violence, fueled by a rape culture based on the domination of bodies. The increasing militarization of society also reinforces a macho model based on hierarchy, oppression, brutality, and the cult of strength. We intend to proceed collectively as a Federation along this path as well.
The intersectionality often emphasized in today's transfeminist debate is part of the anarchist perspective, when we grasp the connections between the various issues that determine oppression and exploitation without establishing a hierarchy of problems and solutions. Our perspective is that of social revolution, of the radical transformation of the existing order, to be achieved through the simultaneous transformation of all relationships.
