(en) France, UCL AL #363 - Ecology - Les Résistantes 2025: A Look Back at the Second Edition of the Les Résistantes Festival (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Several UCL members participated in the second edition of Les
Résistantes, a festival of encounters focused on environmental and
social struggles. The libertarian communists were involved both
organizationally and politically, participating in numerous technical
tasks and leading several workshops. A debriefing of the four-day
festival was provided by the comrades on site... ---- The Les
Résistantes festival was held from Thursday, August 7th to Sunday,
August 10th. It was organized by Terres de luttes, in conjunction with
the local Collectif 924, which opposes the dual carriageway (a recently
successful initiative...) near Saint Hilaire de Briouze in the Orne
department. The fields belong to a fellow farmer, and another welcomed
people from other regions during several preparation weekends.
Our local Orne group, strengthened by the presence of comrades from
central Brittany, Sarthe, Fougères, Caen, Toulouse, Nantes, and Paris,
enabled the UCL federation to host a booth throughout the four days of
the festival.
Collectif 924, in which we are involved, also participated in the
Résistantes program, developing it since last December and leading
several workshops throughout the weekend: debates and discussions on the
state of our public services, and participation in the roundtable
discussion "What public services for tomorrow?" with the Nos Services
publics collective, the Sud Rail federation, the Coalition of Hospitals,
and the local maternity unit. There were also discussions on the
importance and reasons for unionizing, as well as on defending freedom
of association. The UCL Ecology Commission led a survey based on several
texts placing production at the center of ecological thinking, and
participated in a roundtable discussion on the reappropriation of the
means of production. A varied program! These rich moments of discussion
promise to bring to life the mobilizations coming up in September.
Other comrades, as volunteers, contributed to the smooth running of the
festival, joining the kitchen and techno-dishwasher teams, as well as
the medical and security teams. This organizational effort demonstrates
our commitment to this event, which we hope will rekindle our struggles
and future local dynamics.
We note the continued great organizational capacity of the environmental
movement, capable of running an event bringing together several thousand
people in a self-organized manner, while also hosting dozens of
workshops and roundtable discussions. The issue of care was also well
thought out, with a dedicated team tasked with addressing potential
conflicts and preventing and combating sexist and sexual violence.
This year, the program adopted a stronger decolonial angle than in the
previous edition, devoting several sessions to decolonial ecology,
anti-imperialism, and anti-racism. Nevertheless, at the end of the
festival, a collective of people of color spoke publicly to denounce the
racist mechanisms still at work during the festival and within the
environmental movement more generally. The call is clear: it's up to us
to be collectively responsible and take these issues seriously, by
educating ourselves and listening to those affected by racism on a daily
basis. It is urgent to do better, and the alarm was raised about the
significant work that remains to be done in this area within our movements.
