(en) France, Lamouette Enragee: A Look Back at the "Maquis Meetings for Emancipation" in Minerve (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Wed, 8 Oct 2025 08:59:41 +0300

From August 10th to 15th, the annual Meetings for Emancipation were held in the Commune du Maquis (34210 Minerve). The organizers invited La Mouette Enragée to present her work on the worker survey, as well as the resulting book, "Before Going Around the World, Going Around the Workshop." This discussion took place under a marquee in the unusually warm summer weather-for us Boulogne residents-and took place in the city. Our now well-rehearsed presentation was relatively brief, allowing ample space for discussion. It should be noted that the issue of management, which is the subject of a chapter in the book, was addressed this time, as we had been asked to do several times before.

We are obviously delighted by the many comments from the audience that this work has generated. It would be tedious to summarize all the discussions in a few lines. Briefly, we will say that they primarily focused on the methodology used and the rise of precariousness among private sector employees.

The Maquis pour l'Émancipation meetings are also, and above all, a place for informal exchanges over meals and moments of relaxation. While many questions could not be addressed during the debate, we enjoyed continuing the discussion over drinks, a good meal, and even by the pool. It was also an opportunity to network with individuals and groups from all over France and beyond; an opportunity to discuss the relevance of the workers' survey today, as well as to deepen our critique of work under the regime of capitalist accumulation.

In this difficult social context for the proletariat, this type of event, a place for meeting, reunion, and above all for calm (while potentially contradictory) debate, gives a little hope for the times ahead.

Thanks again to the organizers, and long live the Commune!

NOTE:

A small rural federation, La Commune du Maquis is located in the hamlet of Bois-Bas, 12 km from the village of Minerve (34210), in the heart of the countryside. The Maquis extends its almost 270 hectares between the Cesse River and the foothills of the Montagne Noire, some 45 km from Narbonne, 60 km from Béziers, as well as from Carcassonne and Mazamet. Collectively owned by a group of over 80 individuals and legal entities, this space was acquired to, among other things, foster the emergence of practices that transcend private property and enable self-government through collective self-organization. Attached is this summer's program.
