In the heart of La Spezia, a city historically linked to the sea and 
shipbuilding, preparations are underway for the new edition of SeaFuture 
2025, an event that has transformed from a civilian blue economy fair 
into a fully-fledged naval military show entirely dedicated to 
international arms trade. Sponsored by leading arms production companies 
- including Leonardo, Fincantieri, MBDA, Elettronica Group, and 
Intermarine - and supported by the Italian Navy, SeaFuture will host 
over 150 military delegations from around the world, including those 
from authoritarian regimes and countries embroiled in war. The focus 
will not be on peace, but on electronic warfare, cyber defense, and the 
production and sale of weapons, including so-called "dual-use" 
technologies, i.e., civilian technologies easily convertible to military 
use.

In the midst of a global escalation of war and the genocide of the 
Palestinian people before the eyes of the entire world, La Spezia is 
preparing to host an event that normalizes and celebrates the arms 
trade, a choice that also appears to be in stark contrast to Article 11 
of the Italian Constitution, which would enshrine the rejection of war 
as a means of resolving international disputes.

The involvement of local schools is extremely serious, as they are asked 
to participate with projects, visits, competitions, and PCTO 
(school-work alternation) activities involving students from the 
province's schools. This participation risks further militarizing 
schools and distorting their educational curricula, exposing students to 
an implicit message that legitimizes armed conflict and the war industry.

The event comes at a time when the European Union is launching 
rearmament plans worth hundreds of billions of euros and NATO is asking 
member countries to allocate 5% of their GDP to military spending, while 
resources for healthcare, education, and the environment are lacking.

All this is happening in a city with an arsenal yet to be reclaimed, a 
coastline closed to the population because it is occupied by the Navy, 
effectively denying its own residents access to the sea. A city that 
risks becoming a symbol of war and death with the growing presence of 
weapons factories and the organization of events like SeaFuture.

To counter all this, we are calling for the conversion of SeaFuture into 
a civil fair focused on sustainability; an end to schools' involvement 
in war-related events; the appeal also calls for an end to military 
cooperation with Israel and sanctions for human rights violations.

We demand the demilitarization of La Spezia and the conversion of the 
war industry and military spaces for social use.

We want a future of peace, justice, and international solidarity.
