While the Turkish, Hungarian, and Georgian governments are facing fierce resistance, Serbia is no exception to the growing revolutionary anger in the East. A symbol of state corruption and public procurement, the collapse of the Novi Sad train station canopy last November caused the deaths of sixteen people and sparked an unprecedented mobilization in the country, led by students. Access to construction site documents, release of arrested protesters, an end to police violence, and early parliamentary elections; Aleksandar Vucic's government remains deaf to the movement's demands and has chosen to respond with escalating repression: arrests, police violence, surveillance, intimidation, provocations, and more.

While the Serbian people's struggle for justice and truth has undoubtedly shaken Europe for ten months with historic demonstrations and nationwide blockades, the military and industrial interests of Western nations are underscored by their silence, while independent UN experts are finally warning at the beginning of August of the ongoing human rights violations.

At the dawn of a new wave of social protest in our own country, our support goes to the Serbian people and their exemplary uprising against a capitalist government whose "corruption kills."
