(en) Brazil, OSL, Libera #182 - 'JENIN, JENIN' SHOWS THE HEROIC STRUGGLE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Mon, 15 Sep 2025 10:32:45 +0300

In April 2002, the Jenin refugee camp, a city in the occupied West Bank, was destroyed over a ten-day period during Operation Defensive Shield, carried out by the Israeli army. During the attack, the Zionists committed numerous war crimes, and it is estimated that between 200 and 500 Palestinians were shot dead, buried alive, crushed by tanks, and tortured.
In the documentary Jenin, Jenin, Palestinian actor and director Mohammad Bakri entered the camp and interviewed surviving refugees of all ages. The film won Best Film at the 2002 Carthage International Film Festival and the 2003 International Award for Documentary Cinema and Mediterranean Reportage. The Portuguese subtitles were provided by Cineclube Al Ard. The camera films the wreckage of buildings and houses. Residents walk through the rubble, saying that everyone has lost someone, that everywhere people are searching for their buried loved ones. Sadness and anger are evident on everyone's faces, from children to the elderly to people with disabilities: the Zionists spared no one.
The interviewees' statements convey the sagacity and astonishment of those who have just spent days witnessing atrocities, suffering cowardly violence, losing loved ones, and seeing their property fall to ruin, yet who, despite this, stubbornly insist on fighting to the end against the colonizing enemy that steals land and promotes attempted ethnic cleansing. These are cutting words from minds sharpened by pain, courage, and combativeness.
CineCELIP discusses documentary in São Paulo
In February, CineCelip, together with the Al Ard Film Club, screened the documentary "Jenin, Jenin" in São Paulo, discussing the heroic resistance struggle of the Palestinian people. The film debate took place during the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas-which was later violated by the Zionist organization. Attendees left with a broader understanding of the history of Palestinian resistance and Zionist oppression, a deeper awareness of the ongoing genocide, and greater understanding of how to fight against Zionism and in solidarity with Palestine.
