(en) France, UCL press release: anaky: a revolt against colonialist maneuvers (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

As in 1984, Kanaky is set ablaze. The revision of the electoral body, which aims to further reduce the political weight of the Kanak population, has ignited the powder. As in 1984, Kanaky is set ablaze. The revision of the electoral body, which aims to further reduce the political weight of the Kanak population, has ignited the powder. Repression will do nothing; solidarity is necessary; independence the only way. ---- The "thaw of the electorate" prepared for several months by the French State means expanding the electorate in Kanaky to integrate the latest arrivals, the majority from France, accentuating the minority position of the Kanaks on the political plan. This is an essential objective for any settlement colonization: for 171 years, the French state first decimated the Kanak, then organized the replacement of the indigenous population by waves of immigration.

The constitutional bill is still under discussion in the National Assembly. The objective is to authorize anyone who has lived in the territory for ten years to become a voter. This adds more than 25,000 new voters to an electoral list of 180,000; it's considerable.

The Nouméa Accords of 1998 were supposed to launch a twenty-year decolonization process, culminating in a series of 3 referendums on the full sovereignty of Kanaky.

But as always, the stakes being far too high, colonialism will only withdraw under duress. He must buy time, drown the fish, divide the independence forces, create illusions internationally. Forty years already separate us from the Kanak uprising of 1984. Darmanin's warnings about "foreign interference" - Chinese, Azerbaijani - do not fool us. This is classic rhetoric to discredit independence struggles.

Unconditional solidarity with the Kanak people
The mobilizations are increasing in Kanaky, but have so far struggled to be heard in France, where the colonial policy of the French state has gone silent. We must support the peoples fighting for their independence against imperialism, and place decolonial struggles at the heart of our demands. This State, with one hand, represses the French people in France, and with the other maintains thousands of people in a situation of subjection, preventing their access to the most fundamental rights, namely the right to their history, to land, culture, dignity and self-determination.

We express our opposition to the thawing of the electoral body in Kanaky. We reexpress our unconditional solidarity with the Kanak people in their struggle for independence. And more generally, we express this same solidarity with all the peoples and anti-colonialist organizations, from the UTG to the FLNKS, who suffer and fight against the policy of the French State, whether in the so-called "territories of overseas" or in former colonies still under influence.

Complete solidarity with the rebels! 171 years of colonial occupation, that's enough: independence now!
