(en) Italy, FAS Sicilia Libertaria: Opening, E.U. Extremely dangerous war mongering -- Europe with a helmet (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Is World War III approaching? Ukraine, Palestine, the Red Sea are the hot fronts of a picture whose protagonists are the same, the challenges and the stakes are the same. Without forgetting Sub-Saharan Africa, Libya, areas of the Middle East, such as Rojava where the Turkish army takes advantage of international "distractions" to carry out its project of extermination of the Kurdish people. ---- But the most disturbing, perverse and evident signal comes from Europe, where there are growing itchings towards direct involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, justified by a hypothetical US disengagement in the Mediterranean, the void of which should be covered by a rapid rearmament of the States of the Union. A strategy that now seems more than defined (apart from the German hesitation), and which cannot tolerate obstacles, not even the Pope's words on the negotiation. And in this the EU, Great Britain and the USA are consistent: since before the conflict, and during these two years, they have always nipped in the bud any attempt to negotiate, even when Zelensky himself seemed convinced of it, imposing the murderous war policy at all costs, training Kiev's puppet for this purpose, preferring to sacrifice thousands and thousands of men in uniform and the civilian population to the madness of war and the certainty that Putin would give in, or that Russia would implode as it would not be able to hold on for long conflict and international sanctions.

Things did not go like this, and in a few months the war risks turning into a defeat for Kiev, short of ammunition and consensus, fresh from the failure of the counter-offensive trumpeted in recent months. But in Brussels they don't want to admit this, they raise the bar and aim for the generalized rearmament of the Union, at the prospect of a war economy, which will mean (as it already does) further cuts to welfare to increase military production in order to prepare for real war. Such brazen interventionism has not been seen for some time: an extra billion and a half for the common defense of the EU, use of Eurobonds and extra profits deriving from seized Russian assets, readjusting the function of the European Investment Bank from infrastructure to security and to the defense.

The resolution of the European Parliament incites to fight "until victory", even at the cost of sending ground troops, as Macron has already announced and as Meloni herself committed to doing in her recent trip to Kiev by signing an agreement to this effect; the EU Council of 20 March explicitly talks about preparation and future readiness strategy and its president Michel calmly fires: "if we want peace, let's prepare for war".

Therefore in 2024 the EU will allocate another 5 billion in aid to Ukraine through the fund called "European Peace Facility"! France is training the 126th regiment to intervene in the conflict; in Germany, France and Italy, hybrid models of military conscription are being studied, because the one in Donbass is trench warfare, not just technological, and cannon fodder is needed to be sent into the mud to dig and die. Poland, Britain and France already have trainers and field assistants, NATO personnel who direct the use of sophisticated weapons whose secrets cannot be put into the hands of the unreliable Ukrainian military.

Add to this that Poland allocates 27 million to build or restore bunkers on the border; that the German soldiers go to prepare the youth for a possible conflict by going to schools; whereas Denmark will institutionalize female military conscription starting in 2026; whereas Sweden has already reintroduced a form of semi-compulsory military conscription; and above all the commitments to send the first F-16 fighter-bombers and long-range missiles to Ukraine by the summer, "to avoid defeat". And NATO is strengthening its air base in Constanta, on the Black Sea: 3000 hectares, a 10 km perimeter, 10,000 soldiers deployed on the border with Russia while Stoltenberg speaks of Ukraine's inevitable entry into NATO.

It's Italy? Like the other countries of the Union, it has emptied its deposits and urgently needs an armament policy and the money to implement it. Let us remember that in these two years of war it has spent for Ukraine, between humanitarian and military aid, the enormous figure of 5.4 billion euros, which coincidentally corresponds to the amount cut from the Citizenship Income, demonstrating how the connections between war and social policies are very close. He will give Ukraine another billion by 2027. In 2023 alone he sold them weapons worth 417 million, including chemical, toxic and radioactive agents. In the lead Leonardo, Rheinmetall, RWM, Iveco, Avio followed by many others.

The West spent a whopping 108 billion on this war, of which 42 was the USA and 52 the EU; only that the USA is making up for itself by replacing Russia as a supplier of liquefied gas and in other commercial areas. By emphasizing the Russian danger, they reach into citizens' meager wallets, moving huge sums from welfare policies to military ones, hiding the reality of the many dodgers and deserters who, in Ukraine as in Russia, try to escape the carnage decided by criminals who govern them. They are silent about the 300,000 men fleeing from Ukraine, a story that would highlight the madness of this (as of all wars), and about mass desertion, today the only way to weaken and empty conflicts of meaning.

Given the much talk of peace regarding the tragic situation in Gaza and the ongoing genocide, in the month of December alone the Italian government sold weapons worth 1.3 billion to Israel, tripling the dirty deals compared to a year earlier; in the first three months of the conflict the Italian war industry gave Israel 2.1 billion in weapons and ammunition (from Fiocchi to Beretta, to Alenia Aermacchi, owned by Leonardo, which sold 30 M-346 military trainer aircraft with which Israel trains the pilots who bomb Gaza). A government with hands stained with the blood of massacred Palestinian civilians, engaged in a foreign policy with the complicity of the opposition. Moreover, the business of the Italian military sector, well represented in the government, is going swimmingly: exports between 2019 and 2023 increased by 86%; 71% of Italian weapons end up in states (dictatorships) of the Middle East, used against those who dare to challenge the prevailing oil and military order. In first place in this export of death we find Egypt, which continues to mock Italy over the Regeni case.

To govern this situation, the internal front must also be silenced: security decrees, prison for migrants, beatings for students, arrests for the radical opposition, hard lines in trials, precepts for those who strike, soldiers in schools.

We must succeed in having the ability to respond blow for blow, to support Russian and Ukrainian defectors and promote this choice as the most coherent ever to oppose the war; we need to strengthen the fights against military bases, war industries, projects to strengthen the war structures of both Italy and NATO and the USA. And above all we must circulate the slogan of the general strike against the war, as a form of immediate and international struggle to be adopted when the sirens of the murderers in uniform begin to sound. Because the war must be opposed, it must be sabotaged, it must be boycotted.
