A year has passed since the March 2023 mobilization in Ste Soline. This 
weekend of actions marked the history of the fight for the defense of 
water by its scale, its determination, but also by the policy of terror 
applied by a violent and irresponsible government. ---- Since then, the 
monstrous craters that drain water from the aquifers have only found a 
few politicians subservient to agro-industrial lobbies to defend them. 
Everywhere, voices of citizens, farmers and scientists are being raised 
to demand that the force stop and that our vital resources be protected. 
From now on, no water grabbing project escapes the vigilance of local 
residents and their mobilization. This collective awareness of the 
urgency to act is a success, obtained thanks to years of struggles and 
the powerful convergence that occurred that weekend on the Terres Rouges 
of Ste Soline.

But if the name of this small commune in Deux-Sèvres is now known to 
everyone, it is still too often used by those who seek to silence the 
voices that disturb them. In the courts which have condemned the 
anti-basin activists for several months, in the Council of State to try 
to dissolve the Earth Uprisings, in the parliamentary committees, in 
certain media even in the hemicycle, the memory of the demonstration de 
Sainte-Soline is too often sullied to describe a reality disguised in 
the service of power.

While the police violence was astonishing in its brutality, it was the 
30,000 people from France and abroad who came to demonstrate, dance, 
share and debate who were described as terrorists, small violent groups.
While hundreds of collectives organized 3 days of actions and 
discussions for water sharing, a few spokespersons were designated and 
condemned as the organizers of an illegal demonstration.
While these gestures of resistance have given rise to new alliances and 
new actions against the basins have been organized for a year, the 
gendarmerie reports are pleased to have broken the morale of the resistance.

There are many examples of instrumentalization. Unfortunately for Macron 
and his gang, there are far too many of us who can bear witness to what 
really happened in the fields that day. The traces left by the struggle, 
the stories and the works that it inspired reveal the Machiavellian 
strategy of those who decided to monopolize the water whatever the cost. 
History will retain resistance to safeguard the general interest and our 
voices will never be stifled.
