On February 3, a pro-Gaza and anti-war initiative was held at the NO 
MUOS garrison in the Ulmo district, close to the American base: this is 
the statement issued at the end:

"Cease fire" was asked at the No MUOS Presidium in Niscemi by activists 
from numerous Sicilian communities in solidarity with the citizens of Gaza.

Once again, activists called for an end to the genocide taking place in 
Gaza, on Saturday 3 February 2024, at the No MUOS Presidium in the cork 
forest of Niscemi, a few steps from the antennas of the Naval Radio 
Transmitter Facility (NRTF) and the MUOS satellite dishes ( Mobile User

During the Presidium, the No Muos women reiterated their rejection of 
war: "We are anti-militarist subjectivities against wars and all

, harmful plants such as the Muos and the TAV, nuclear plants and large 
useless works that increase the destruction of our territories.

We are against the occupation of US and NATO bases legitimized by the 
Italian state and its governments. From Sicily our No to war is even 
stronger: here in Niscemi, the MUOS is a communication infrastructure 
for all the United States' wars; in Sigonella, in the province of 
Catania, the Naval Air Station (NAS Sigonella) of the US Navy operates, 
also used for NATO operations, from which US and NATO spy drones and 
P-8A "Poseidon" patrol boats take off daily for anti-Russian 
intelligence operations in the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea. 
Instruments of death and material and cultural impoverishment for the 
populations, opportunities for unimaginable profits for a few who 
influence the choices of servile and colluding governments.

We Women of No Muos unite with all the women of the earth who resist in 
the territories and who are shot dead, wounded, mutilated in body and 
soul: we cannot bear the insult to life caused by weapons and we unite 
with everyone the peoples of the earth to say 'Enough war', the most 
absurd and deplorable male invention".

A vast program was launched in Palermo by the anti-war assembly, with 
demonstrations, sit-ins, conferences; on the occasion of the second 
anniversary of the war in Ukraine, for example, two sit-ins are planned 
at the US and Russian consulates. But let's not forget about Ocalan, to 
whom another initiative is dedicated in February. Also scheduled in 
Palermo is the presentation of Antonio Mazzeo's latest book "The school 
goes to war - Investigation into the militarization of education in 
Italy. This is the synopsis of the volume, which will be presented in 
various locations on the island and the continent:

Where is the Italian school going? To war... At the same time as the 
privatization and precarization of the education system, we are 
witnessing a suffocating process of militarization of educational 
institutions and of the cultural and educational contents themselves. As 
happened in the times of fascism, schools return to being barracks while 
the barracks are converted into classrooms and gyms to train the 
student-soldier devoted to perpetual obedience.

To cities of art, museums and archaeological sites, principals and 
teachers increasingly prefer visits to US and NATO bases "hosted" in 
Italy in defiance of the Constitution or those to barracks, airports, 
military ports, radar installations and war industries. Meanwhile, 
educational-cultural activities entrusted to teaching generals and 
admirals are multiplying, as are training internships on 
fighter-bombers, tanks and war frigates or school-work alternation 
alongside the elite departments of the armed forces or in weapons 
manufacturing companies. .

This work aims to contribute to national campaigns that aim at 
disarmament and demilitarization of education in support of peace, 
freedom of expression and teaching, public schools and the fundamental 
values of formal and substantial equality and social justice.

The Movement will return to the streets of Niscemi on 2 or 3 March (the 
date is to be defined, we avoid those interested in following the 
movement's social media or our newspaper's FB page) to talk about 
conflicts and the role of the MUOS and Sicily in the wars in progress. 
The initiative was launched during the assembly on 3 February at the 
garrison.
