Against the areas of North-East Syria, mainly inhabited by Kurdish
populations and managed by the AANES (Autonomous Administration of
North-East Syria), Turkey has intensified military attacks since last
autumn against water and energy sources, their distribution networks,
food warehouses and processing industries, medical facilities, printing
presses, garment factories. ---- Between 15 and 18 January 2024, in just
three days, dozens and dozens of bombings were launched against petrol
stations and power plants, leaving more than 900 villages without
electricity. Italy's responsibilities are direct and evident, as Turkey
is one of the major export markets for the Italian war industry, led by
Leonardo and Beretta, through the supply of weapons, helicopters, bombs,
missiles and drones.
With these terrorist actions, Turkey, taking advantage of the war
situation involving the Middle East, wants to hit the economic bases of
the population, bringing about the collapse of the structures of
self-government based on democratic confederalism, destroying the social
gains obtained with a hard struggle, thus always making life in the
region is more difficult, if not impossible.
Once again, an international mobilization is necessary to force the
government of Turkish President Recer Tayyip Erdogan to stop the
bombings and to respect the freedoms, autonomy and self-determination of
the peoples of Rojava.
In this mobilization, the request for the release of Abdullah Öcalan,
detained for over 25 years, in inhuman conditions of isolation, on the
island of Imrali, takes on particular importance. In fact, we recall
that until 2015, talks were held in prison between a Turkish delegation
and Öcalan to find a way of political resolution to the conflict between
Turkey and the Kurdish liberation movement; talks suddenly interrupted
by Erdogan with the military offensive against the Kurdish cities of
Turkey - Cizre, Nusaybin, the Sur neighborhood of Diyarbakir - causing
the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people and hundreds of
civilian victims. Öcalan's freedom, as well as that of the many
political prisoners, today becomes an indispensable step towards the
resolution of that conflict.
For the cessation of the bombings and attacks by the Jihadist gangs
supported by Erdogan, for the freedom of Öcalan and the many political
prisoners, we are in the streets on February 17th to demonstrate our
support for the Kurdish community and for the ongoing revolution, based
on direct and federated management of the territory, on gender equality,
on social ecology.
