(en) Greece, OSL, land & freedom: Position of Quieta Movere on the developments of the student movement (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Going through the fourth week of mass general meetings and sit-ins, yesterday, Thursday 1/2 we were back on the street, once again supporting the bloc of student unions with open-ended resolutions. The march was flanked, once again, by a crowd of students, students with squatters, teachers and workers. ---- And this Thursday it became clear, therefore, that the largest part of the social base, the oppressed part of the social fabric that is inside and outside the universities explicitly stated that even in the field of the street it is called to defend public and free education with bottom-up processes, open frameworks and mass coordination committees. In essence, this week the cycle of competitive processes as a whole, as reflected either in the field of the street or in that of the kinetic processes within the student clubs, highlighted the weighty importance of the horizontal processes that directly involve all students without the mediation, bureaucracy and "cinematic hooliganism" of other forces.

Also, this week the Rectors' Synod met which, in full cooperation with the Ministry of Education and its provisions, gave a single direction to the Senates of all university institutions in the territory for the realization of electronic examinations. In turn, the Senate of AUTH decided to go along with the decision of the Synod by announcing on Wednesday night that the examination will be given "normally" and electronically, in fact overruling the decisions of the AUTH student associations to occupy the departments and by extension to stop their operation.

For this reason, the largest part of Thursday's march ended up in the asylum, where, based on the decisions to occupy the Rector's Office of the student associations of Geology and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, male and female students proceeded to occupy the administrative building with a basic request to lift the decision of AUTH Senate for electronic examinations. Perceiving the conduct of tele-exams as another repressive mechanism of the state with the sole aim of demobilizing the struggling students and de-escalating the struggle in general, we of course also supported this movement with our strength.

In the now occupied Rectorate, a giant banner was hung with the central slogan "Examinations can wait...our future can't" and was followed by a Coordinator of General Assemblies within it with the participation of dozens of student associations and hundreds of students.

However, a short time after the start of the coordination, during the process, i.e., where the clubs were presenting political considerations around the match being given and the participation of at least 300 people, at the request of the temporary interim rector Apostolos Apostolidis, all kinds of police forces invaded (from security to MAT and EKAM) first inside the university asylum and second inside the rectory itself where they searched the building for people who might still have stayed inside. A rally against the evacuation operation was held right next door, where the student body lined up against the cops. The result was that the cops left the scene after half an hour, with the blocks of clubs following them until they were driven out and completely cordoned off the campus, defending the mass proceedings, decisions, demonstrations and student movement in whole of it. Then followed Coordinator of General Assemblies at NOPE.

Yesterday's example is the way we must move. To fully oppose the privatization of universities, to strengthen even more the procedures within the clubs with horizontality, to defend the asylum by all means by resisting any encroachment on it. Essentially, let's continue but also escalate the struggle, not to allow the repressive means unleashed by the state, such as the electronic examinations, the bravos of the reactionaries of the DAP-NDFK government faction and the prosecutorial interventions to mean nothing in front of the real stake, the which is none other than the defense of public and free education, health, transport, food, housing... in short the real issue is to live the lives we deserve.
