Choice? What fucking choice!
We get a lot of false choices under capitalism. Coke or Pepsi, McDonalds or
Burger King, KFC or Pizza Hut. All are bad for you, and all have the unhappy
knack of making somebody else rich at our expense.
But the falsest choice of all is the much hyped “choice” between Tony Blair
and Gordon Brown. The tedious dispute between the two men is about one thing
only – who has absolute power as Prime Minister. There are no significant
policy differences between the two, and those running round shouting “Kick
Blair Out” as some panacea to our problems, really should know better.
Would Brown have said no to war in Iraq? Of course not.
Whether we are “led” by Blair, Brown, Howard or Kennedy makes no real
difference to the lives of most working class people in this country. We are
still pushed around at school, at work, in our communities and even when we
go to watch a football match.
Changing from one ruling class politician to another is no change at all.
Change can occur in our lives. Twenty years ago thousands of miners and
their families discovered that during the 1984-5 strike, when they stopped
listening to their bosses, politicians and police officers, and followed
their own class instincts. Each day we can score little victories against
the false choices we are offered in life – we can dodge the fares on the
tube, or fiddle our time sheets at work, slip a few bottles past the counter
at Sainsbury’s.
Small tokens are not enough though. Tony Blair, and Gordon Brown, ask us to
believe that the class war is over. Take a look at around you. If the class
war is over – who won? It certainly was not us!
Its time to stop following the false choices of Blair versus Brown, Tory
versus UKIP, Lib Dem versus Respect, BNP versus NF. We need to choose a
world without politicians, without capitalism and without exploitation. That
is class war!
Editorial 2 –
Shit – Or Get Off the Pot!
There’s been a lot of rhetoric from the Countryside Alliance, Real
Countryside Alliance and every fringe right-wing nutcase since parliament
voted (yet again!) to ban fox hunting in England. The British National Party
talked of the government having declared civil war, whilst various hunters
stepped forward to prophesise death and destruction unless their “sport” was
allowed to continue.
Well guys, the ball is now in your court. You’ve talked the talk…………
Sick of Work
No sickies? Who the fuck do Tesco's bosses think they are? These bosses have
come up with a plan to stop their worker's being ill.
They plan not to pay their worker's for the first three day's they take off
sick. What a set of complete wanker's - sick day's are the get out of jail
free card of the worker. When your job is so shit (like 90% of job's in
Britain today) the sick day is the only option left to workers who are so
miserable at work they would rather put there hand in the sausage grinder
than do a Saturday afternoon shift when there team is in the FA Cup (or
whatever).
The best thing about sick day's is that our fellow worker's are happy to
cover for us because everybody does them - it is a great example of
socialism in action, having a day of at the expense of no one other than the
company! Back of the net!!!.
Tesco's claim that they are not being tight fisted but are doing it for the
sake of the customer what a load of shit! Bearing in mind that most cold's
and flu last about three days all Tesco's worker's should make sure they
cough all over their manager's and bosses let's get these bastard's sneezing
all over their productivity spread sheets and sweating like pigs when they
are trying that all important put at the 18th. Class War!!
Enough to make you sick!
Its not just Tesco who are clamping down on “sick” leave. British Airways
and the civil service have also launched reviews of their policies to clamp
down on “abuse”. Champions in this field appear to be staff in the civil
service, who take an average of 11 days self-certificate sickness leave per
year. The big question is – would anybody notice if they took 20!
Harry Roberts Is Our Friend
Well, it may be Class War’s favourite chant, but it seems we are not alone
in our admiration for Britain’s greatest ever cop shooting armed robber.
Tower Hamlets Council seem to have listened the cries of “There’s only one
Harry Roberts” and named a primary school after the great man!
Any Eastenders looking to ensure their kids are brought up the Class War way
should enrol them as soon as possible. Web details – and pictures – from
http://www.harryroberts.towerhamlets.sch.uk/
Quotes
“We didn’t do it with balloons, we didn’t do it by being nicey-picey, hoping
they feel sorry for us and take pity on us. We did it by threatening
industrial action”
RMT leader Bob Crow on why his union’s membership has increased by over
14,000, and secured many above inflation pay increases.
"... we will legislate this winter to upgrade our secure passport system, to
create a new, clean database on which we will understand and know who is in
our country, who is entitled to work, to services, to the something for
something society which we value. As people renew their passports, they will
receive their new identity card. The cost of biometrics and the card will be
added to the total of passports."
Home Secretary David Blunkett in his speech to this year’s Labour Party
conference. To undermine any mass boycott of ID cards his message is simple
– no ID card – no passport. Not to worry David, we’ll take the passport, and
bin the ID card.
“Keith was an outstanding trade union member. The union and I have lost a
great comrade and friend”
Arthur Scargill at the funeral of Nottinghamshire NUM activist Keith
Frogson, who was murdered in July. Robert Boyer, a scab during the miners
strike of 1984-5, has been charged with his murder.
“He is what we call an amateur by which I mean that although he works pretty
much seven days a week, he isn’t paid. Instead, Otis manages to fund
himself”
Patricia Cornes, Secretary of the South Shropshire Hunt, discussing Hunt
Master Otis Ferry. Only the very rich, or very stupid, work for nothing. The
remarkable thing about Otis Ferry is that he is both!
“What they are highlighting is how ordinary, decent fathers are made
genuinely desperate and unhappy by a system that denies them the right to
see their beloved child for months or years, if a scorned woman so decides”
Daily Mirror columnist Brian Reade (16 September 2004) discussing the group
Fathers for Justice.
Everybody out!
Congratulations to the Fire Brigades Union on their vote to leave the Labour
Party. Such action is clearly the way forward for trades unions – since the
RMT was expelled in February 2004, its membership has increased by over
3000.
Fitting Memorial
The Princess Diana Memorial Fountain has proved to be an entirely suitable
tribute to her memory. It is slippery, very expensive, does not work and
nobody seems to know quite what its purpose is. Does that remind you of
anyone?
Thick Royal Twat is Exam Cheat
Prince Harry’s military career at Sandhurst seems to have been blown out of
the water before it even began. Harry needed just two A levels to make it,
which considering he went to Eton, and is surrounded by some of the leading
teachers and academics in the UK, should not have been too difficult.
Sadly for Harry though, he seems to have inherited his fathers looks and his
mothers brains. Having got the worst Geography pass in his year, Harry gave
up on his next, hardly exacting subject – the History of Art. That just left
Art, which he had to pass to get into the supposedly exclusive military
academy.
Step forward Eton art teacher Sarah Forsyth, who says she was told to help
Harry cheat to ensure he got the B he required. He did, and is now off to
Sandhurst. Will Harry be allowed to cheat there, or will this story end the
same way as his Uncle Edward’s career in the Royal Marines?
Either way we somehow doubt that Harry will be on the frontine anywhere,
come the next war.
The X-Files Comes True
In July Law Lords established that the police can keep ALL DNA samples that
they take. This applies even to those found not guilty by the courts, or
those never charged with any offence. Lord Brown argued that he could see no
reason why anybody should object to their samples being kept by the police.
Privacy? Fear of being fitted up? A desire not to have police officers
poking through their personal data? Taking Lord Brown’s argument to its
logical conclusion, we can see no reason why he should object to being
monitored by a camera crew 24 hours a day, just to make sure he is upholding
the law properly. A camera could be positioned in his bedroom, in his legal
chambers, in his toilet, above his Secretary’s desk, , in his car, at his
club, in his holiday home, in his London flat, in his ancestral home – after
all, if he has nothing to hide, as a public servant why should he possibly
object?
That’s Some Wedge
With apologies to our Scottish readers – but golf really is a wanky sport
for wankers. Lots of wealthy business man tapping a small ball around in
what used to be our countryside – bollocks. Its no surprise that in 2005,
when Britain has Presidency of the G8 group of nations, the G8 summit will
be at Gleneagles in Perthshire. The leaders of the USA, France, Russia,
Germany, Canada, Italy and Japan will join Blair for a meeting to decide how
best they can continue to destroy the world, and its peoples.
The immediate cost of this event is an estimated £150 million security bill
for the biggest policing task ever held in Scotland. And you can bet Tony
Blair is not paying that – you and me are!
Dissent is a network of resistance organising against this event. More

Obituary
Mark Roarty 1971-2004
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Mark Roarty. He
was part of the infamous ‘gang of 4’ Donny Mark’s in Class War from the late
80s through to the 90s. Many of us in Doncaster Class War grew up with Mark
and had known him since early childhood so our sorrow is compounded by the
loss of a friend as well as a comrade.
He was active in the fight against both the poll tax and the first Iraq war,
but his first love was for all things Irish and he campaigned long and hard
for a United Ireland. Always willing to put his words into actions Mark was
no armchair activist. He risked arrest many times fighting fascists, the
police or middle class students! His pride in his class and his contempt for
the middle classes meant he never lost faith in the inevitable success of
the class struggle. So here’s to you Mark. Raise a glass in memory of a
great and loyal Irish republican class war socialist. There is and ca never
be, a better epitaph. Our thoughts are with his Mam, Dad and sisters. OUR
DAY WILL COME.

There was once a PM, Tony Blair
And it’s obvious he did not care
Because he bombed Iraq
Yes, he gave them some flak
Then said “Oops Never mind and there, there”
There was a group called Al-Qaeda
And they got pissed off with this leader
Because he bombed Iraq
So they gave him flak back
Then said “Oops, never mind but fair’s fair”
Bang On! Bonkers Bumpkins Bashed by Bobbies!
Has there ever been a better demonstration to watch on the telly than the
Countryside Alliance “riot” outside Parliament in September?
The Countryside Alliance met the police for a right wingers ‘handbags at
dawn’ competition – and it certainly brought tears to our eyes – of fucking
laughter!
The aftermath was somewhat more serious however. Journalists often moan that
they get targeted by angry mobs on demonstrations for taking peoples photos
which then end up on the front pages of right-wing tabloids encouraging
people to shop their mates. Serious jail time has been the result for many
with others losing their jobs.
The double standards on this occasion were blatantly obvious. Where were the
same calls to grass up the toffs? Where was the twenty minute feature on
Crimewatch, and the tearful policeman’s wife sobbing that her husband was
only doing his job? There weren’t any.
Just the ‘poor old peaceful demonstrators are attacked by the police’. These
same demonstrators who peacefully brought fireworks and smoke bombs along -
no doubt to celebrate next years Chinese New Year with the Met.
The reaction of the tabloids was obviously based on class. Most of the
editors of these shitty papers associate themselves closely with the toff
scum who are to be found rampaging across the countryside most weekends or
slapping each others backs at weekend shoots. They are the same threat to
the working class as are the police.
Maybe its time to target the right-wing media in a more direct and forceful
manner. Rather than giving journalists a slap on demos we should start
taking the demos to the papers themselves, and make them realise how much of
a target they really are for our anger at their lies and hypocrisy. If they
want a story….let’s give them one!
As for the Countryside Alliance and the Met – here’s to round two!
Urban Alliance Communiqué Number 1
In amongst all the fun and games inside and outside parliament, the Union of
Country Sports Workers carelessly mislaid their banner. A few days later we
received a copy of the following communiqué from the Urban Alliance:
On the afternoon of Wednesday, 15 September, elements of London Brigade
Urban Alliance were on active service gathering intelligence on the
countryside demonstration in Parliament Square.
In the course of the surveillance operation, the opportunity arose to
capture the banner of the Union of Country Sports Workers. The
volunteers seized their chance and successfully withdrew from the area
with their prize.
No casualties were sustained.
In response, the Urban Alliance received an e mail from leading hunter, and
former Press Officer of the Countryside Alliance, Janet George. We reprint
it in full, without comment:

Bless you Captain Swing for solving THAT mystery - in all the excitement
no-one could remember where they saw it last. Nice bit of initiative from
your volunteers - they were obviously well and truly awake.
Maybe we could enlist them to help with the next 'test' of Government
security!
It's a nice banner and I'd understand you wanting to keep it as a trophy -
but it DOES collect dust if not used regularly. If you find you want the
space, we'd be happy to cover costs of its return (and perhaps a modest
drink for the lads who liberated it.)

Janet G.
Toff With Their Heads!
Well you can’t say we didn’t warn you. After years of warnings , Class War’s
predictions about the reactionary dangers of the Countryside Alliance, and
the campaign for fox hunting are now obvious. The hunt scum now have to
either deliver on their threats of civil war, brining down the government
and poisoning the water supply (and that’s some of their more moderate
comments) or accept the end of fox hunting. Its their call.
The battle royal outside parliament in September has been compared to the
Poll tax riot, but this is totally misleading for a number of reasons.
Firstly, working class people were then fighting a progressive cause for
everybody’s good. Whereas, the foxhunters and their allies, are fighting to
preserve the status quo.
Secondly, the poll tax march was at the minimum 20 times bigger than the
assorted toffs and their workers who were in Parliament Square, and the
level of violence from the police was also far greater at the Poll tax.
There was an element of stupidity about the foxhunters fighting the police
in front of parliament - as if they would be let through. In reality, it was
an old time protest where the aristocracy got their retainers – In the form
of their employees - to do the fighting for them mostly.
Thirdly, it has been illegal for nearly 200 years for a demonstration to be
within a mile or so of parliament while parliament is sitting.
In 1993 Class War organised a small demonstration against the Queens Speech
at Parliament – we never got allowed anywhere near Parliament. One law for
them?
Ferry Stupid
There were a limited numbers of arrests, and none of the right wing press
have ran "Name These Thug" stories where the public are encouraged to grass
up protesters – unlike all of the recent anti-capitalist and May Day
protests.
That two women could get away with defending themselves in court, and only
get a pittance of a fine for abandoning a vehicle in Parliament Square
speaks volumes. Bryan Ferry’s ex-wife is one of these fools, along with her
stupidly named stupid son Otis Ferry, who is yet to be charged with anything
following the invasion of Parliament. Mrs Ferry is threatening to bring down
the government.
These are the same people who have had power in this country for a thousand
years, and we should realise that as soon as the governmental process is not
working in their favour (for the first time in a thousand years!) they
threaten everyone else to defend their privilege.
while keeping their public support for those doing direct action to keep
foxhunting quiet. In the traditional right wing way All the pro hunt
organisations such as the Countryside Action Network, the Real Countryside
Alliance, Farmers For Action, Farmers Weekly, and the Countryside Alliance
and magazines such as Horse and Hound, and Country Life give as much support
as they can without being seen to encourage direct action.
Thus we get hypocrisy such as ‘while we condemn the invasion of the commons
it was a success and sheds glamour on our cause’ (Country Life editorial,
23/9/04)
Mix this with other reactionary views such as the right wing criticisms of
Blairite policy “because it’s PC”, and ‘the natural order of things in gods
creation’ (both from the same Country Life editorial) and you have little
England romantic bullshit, fighting because hunting is a ‘belief system’.
Given that cock fighting and bear baiting were belief systems too, they
really are hypocritical themselves. It was no surprise to us that the
Countryside Alliance’s rank and file have criticised the anti-hunt MP Gerald
Kaufmann, not for his right wing Labour beliefs but because “he is a fucking
Jew”. So much for their banners that say fight prejudice. Can anyone think
of a group of people more prejudiced than two thousand foxhunters?
As that noted anarchist Roy Hattersley said in the Guardian, the Countryside
Alliance’s ‘keep it because it is traditional’ arguments could have been
applied to the miners 20 years ago with far more justification. This is not
about jobs because they never gave a shit when the working class suffered
under Thatcher, the printers, dockers, miners, steel workers all were
abandoned by the toff class who didn’t give two fucks about their
traditions. The gas chambers in Nazi Germany created work too, but that is
no reason to keep them.
Hunts regularly kill hounds with years of life left in them, after they have
gone past their sell by date for chasing Mr Fox (about 4 years of age) so
they don’t give a toss about animals either, yet preach to us about animal
welfare.
The Countryside Alliance are scum.
Royal Hunts
The peak of the hunting pyramid is the decadent inbred royal family – with
the Queen lecturing Blair on ‘how he doesn’t understand the countryside’,
but he’s got a countryside constituency in Sedgwick for fucks sake, and has
had for 20 years or so.
The silence of the Princes - Charles, William, and Harry speaks volumes –
they’ve been told to keep their gobs shut. Instead they have had to resort
to mouthing support for the foxhunters rather like the old rat-bag herself,
the Queen Mother, mouthed support behind closed doors for apartheid in South
Africa. The biggest hypocrites are the unelected head of state in Britain
and the rest of the Royal family, who have to respect the will of
parliament under the act of settlement, or like Charles the first, they may
find themselves levelled by commoners.
Ruling Class Myths No:235 – Guardians of the Countryside
August saw the conviction of gamekeeper Stephen Muir, convicted of what the
RSPB described as Scotland’s “worst wildlife crime”. Muir poisoned a minimum
of 25 birds, including buzzards, a goshawk and a tawny owl.
His solicitor told the court “He felt he was doing his job, but in no way
was he asked by the estate to do this. He is clearly someone who has respect
and a love for the countryside. That is where he spends his life and work."
No further comment is required!
WE ALL HATE YOU
Darren Hughes, a spokesman on behalf of the Cuntryside Alliance was shocked
and stunned when he was verbally abused at the Labour Party Conference in
Brighton.
Hughes who volunteered to do a Countryside Alliance stall at the event
moaned that Labour delegates accused him of being a paedophile, a pervert,
and a racist, (the latter we think)
After his stall was vandalised, defaced and eventually wrecked he complained
to the organisers who told him next time he won’t be invited. Does this show
how thick the CA are really like…maybe he should get a stall at the
Anarchist bookfair where he will get much more than the above!
Mumsy - Don’t Let The Eat Me
After Mark Thatcher was arrested for bank rolling a failed coup attempt to
take over the oil-rich state of Equatorial Guinea (isn’t that funding
terrorism?) Class War can reveal that his fears of what President Teodoro
has lying in wait for him should he be deported.
In a secret taped phone recording we can hear Mark Thatcher’s desperate call
to the Iron Lady.
Mark: I’m in a spot of bother mumsy they say I was trying to take over an
oil rich country.
Mumsy: Well done Mark, I’ve tried that a couple of times myself it can be
very rewarding – just ask Tony Blair.
Mark: No mumsy you don’t understand it went wrong and they want to deport
me. Could you see your way to sending me a sub?
Mumsy: Send a sub? Like I did to the Falklands?
Mark: No you daft old bat – money! I need money! They say that their
President is a cannibal and he eats his enemies testicles to boost his sex
drive. I need help!
Mumsy: Mmmmmmm, why didn’t I think of that.
Then the line crackles and the tape goes dead.
Class War has only one bit of advice for President Teodoro – don’t eat him
shoot the bastard, he is probably poisonous, just like his evil cow of a
mother!
Anti-Fascist Centre page Spread
Sunday 25th July – Trafalgar Square.
Now hopes were high for this one! When the Al-Qaeda loving Islamic nutters
of Al-Muijihiroun called a rally in Trafalgar Square, the National Front
quickly called a counter-demo. Equally quickly new anti-fascist group
Anti-fa called a counter demonstration against both of them!
On the day however the fearsome Islamic warriors of Al-Mujihiroun failed to
show, as they did not have legal permission for their event. Indeed they
appeared to lose their nerve after Ken Livingstone sent them “a strongly
worded letter” Such much for not obeying man made laws!
First in the square in significant numbers were a large contingent of Sikhs
(there to demonstrate against Al-M) The Sikhs turned up and promptly nicked
the NF's pitch by the National Gallery. A small number of fascists arrived,
mostly in threes and fours, and looked rather forlorn, both at their own
organisation and the Sikhs "Sikh, British and Proud" flag!
Without clear leadership the NF contingent, bolstered by the Ulster British
Alliance, remained disjointed, but the very large police presence in and
around the Square prevented any clashes. At this point the only danger was
that some anti-fascists might die laughing at the particularly thick fascist
who insisted on regaling us with information about the NF’s plans, and even
when told he was talking to anti-fascists refused to believe them. He will
go far!
With police numbers increasing and the potential of being blocked in rising,
it was time to shift. Having taken a short break for refreshments, about 35
anti-fascists returned to the Square to find the fash had now got their act
together but were split into two separate groups.
This included a contingent from a group called the United British Alliance
(mostly football hooligans) who claim to be non-racist. Indeed it has been
suggested by the NF that their number includes non-whites. We did not see
any on the day, and when we approached their picket of about 60 lads,
amongst the loyalist chanting were several cries, in our direction of "race
traitors". So much for them not being racists!
Having been shifted on by a large contingent of cops it was time to present
our credentials to the NF, who mustered about 30-40 strong. Again they chose
to stay behind the police barriers. By now the cops had more than lost their
patience with us, and we were forced out of the Square to Charing Cross
station, pausing only to swap rounds of applause with the Sikhs.
All in all the day went reasonably well, in what was one of Antifa's first
outings Some lessons from the day:
* Turn up on time. More people arriving later in the day has less impact
than large numbers being present at the start. As Ron Atkinson would say,
there is nothing wrong with a good hard challenge early doors!
* Be calm but purposeful - it was perfectly possible to get close to the
opposition and look them in the whites of their eyes. If you want to stand
behind barriers with the cops, go and join Unite Against Fascism.
* Bring a friend. We need more people at these events - they are regularly
out numbering us. Fighting fascism involves more than sitting about talking.
* Expect to be stopped, searched and photographed by the police. Don't carry
anything you would not want to be found with.
Finally a big thank you to the guys who came down from Leeds - it is nice to
meet some anti-fascists from the city who aren't the usual Searchlight
compromised clowns!
Thursday 23rd September - Basildon
At the recent Laindon ward council election in Basildon David King, a former
BNP treasurer was standing for a seat.
Unite Against Fascism held a meeting a week prior to the election, with
fifty people present, but no picket of the election count was organised. On
the night it was announced that King had come third, and the 20 BNP members
and supporters left the town hall defeated, but unopposed. Two minutes down
the road, were seven anti-fascists who just happened to be drinking in town.
When the two groups met (despite being outnumbered three to one), a 'full
and frank discussion' with King and other members ended with them on the
floor, and later receiving treatment from an ambulance crew. One of the BNP
'security' entourage panicked and managed to spray two anti-fascists with
mace, as well as half his mates. No arrests were made.
Thursday 8th October – Dagenham
WOT NO FASCISTS?
The call out was made and we headed to Dagenham, the cockney overspill in
where there has been a lot of activity by the BNP. After Daniel Kelly stood
in Barking another BNP candidate, Lawrence Rustem was standing for the town
hall. I guess it was time to show the BNP that we are here to stop there
cocky behaviour.
On arrival we found a Wetherspoons, meeting up with everyone else and
getting organised, people turned up from Sussex, Kent, many London boroughs
, even Barking. There was a good crowd of us, strength in numbers, a guy
said to me “fuck me is there a rave on?”, “nah we are here to fight the BNP”
was my reply.
Leaving the pub In dribs and drabs we headed towards the town hall where we
found you guessed it another pub, no sign of the BNP at all, a few meat
wagons passing, strange stares, all was normal, a BNP spotter was seen, he
had MADE IN ENGLAND tattooed on he’s forehead, a give away sign I suppose!
We lingered waiting, word went around that the BNP were leaving, we all
legged it to the Town Hall as we arrived so did the dog handlers, someone
had a go at four Tory boys, confrontation with the police truncheons raised,
three arrests. We headed back towards the tube, me and two other comrades
was walking along when a car pulled up, four men started mumbling something,
I clocked a pin badge with the pound sign, I spat at them, they produced a
cam recorder, one tried getting out more like pretended, they sped off.
I legged it back on the last tube, looking back on it know there was a good
turn out of anti fascists, everyone was up for a ruck and ready to kick some
nazi arse, didn’t really see the point in lingering fighting the old bill, I
was there to show solidarity and to fight fascists…great to hear the BNP
candidate lost the vote anyway.
