Call to action against World Bank in Barcelona (22 - 27 june)

On June 25th-27th the World Bank will be holding its Annual conference =
on Economic Development in Barcelona (Catalonia-Spain)... and we want to =
give them a welcome.=20
Following the example of Seattle, Melbourne, Prague, and so many others, =
we're organizing the

'Campaign against the World Bank - Barcelona 2001':
'A DIFFERENT WORLD IS POSSIBLE - GLOBALIZE RESISTANCES AND SOLIDARITY'

And we would like to invite you to join us for the counter-conference, =
the demonstations and the people's trial against the institution.

This is what we're thinking of doing:
June 16th-21st: de-centralized activities on a local level, emphasizing =
the role of the European Union in the globalisation process (EU reps =
will be meeting in Gothenburg on the 16th).=20
June 22nd and 23rd: Counter-conference with  several workshops around 7 =
main areas: ecology and food and agriculture, social and workers' =
rights, militarisation and peace, immigration, globalisation and women, =
globalisation and development.=20
Night of June 23rd: concert coinciding with la fiesta de St. Joan, a=20
traditional night of magic and fire.=20
June 24th: Mass united demonstration.=20
June 25th: Street party, civil desobedience and coordinated non-violent =
activities.=20
June 26-27th: De-centralized activities organized by affinity groups.=20
June 27th: The World Bank on trial.
We fully support the protests to be held in Genoa against the G-8 =
meeting in July and would urge you to contact the activists preparing =
these in Italy.=20
Nevertheless, after the successful battle against the World Bank in =
Prague, we feel it is essential to keep up the pressure against this =
institution. We must deepen the crisis of legitimacy that this and other =
institutions of global capital are experiencing with the aim of =
spreading the crisis to the heart of the multinationals themselves. =
Furthermore, in the process we aim to strengthen the anti-capitalist =
movement in this country.
The campaign is receiving a big response here and we are expecting a =
repeat of the mass protests we have seen in Seattle, Melbourne, Praga, =
Nice, etc.
We're organizing an international meeting on May 12th and 13th in =
Barcelona in order to inform and coordinate on a european level.=20
