(en) Italy, Sicilia Libertaria: Silib debate: The contribution of ideas of this newspaper to the movement (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

In its now long years of existence, this newspaper has made an effort to provide stimuli and elements of debate both to the anarchist movement as a whole and to the entire varied world (libertarian, anti-auritarian, revolutionary, etc.) that reads and sympathizes with us. As comrade Natale Mjsarra pointed out in the editorial of the last issue, we cannot help but notice, however, that all this has not been accompanied by adequate debates, comparisons and replies. Sometimes you have the feeling of speaking into the wind; but that it is only a sensation is told by the continuous certificates of esteem we receive, a sign that libertarian Sicily is lively and interests a growing number of readers.

In short, we would like to see more dialogue and even polemics, because the passion for ideas is always a harbinger of new stimuli and common growth.

We, as we know, were born in the wake of a debate on the issues of the national liberation struggle, to which we added related contributions such as internationalism, federalism, the southern question and the Sicilian question. This has remained our guiding thread for over 40 years. Yet, as Musarra pointed out, we receive considerations about ourselves which would argue that we are still a local newspaper. To consider libertarian Sicily a local newspaper is to not have understood the scope of its contents, both the more general themes (anarchism and national liberation struggle first and foremost, or the criticism of development and industrialization, another strong point that we have carried forward since year of birth 1977), and the more specific themes. The Southern question, for example, cannot be seen as a problem of the South; "if there were no South there would be no North" (paraphrasing Zamarin's Gasparazzo), that is, the socio-economic conditions of the rich areas of the country are not separated from those of the poor areas, there is a close connection that must be made under consideration and should be part of the strategies and analyzes of those who live in the North (but also of many who live in the South). Current issues such as differentiated autonomy, yet another attempt to legally plunder the South, reopen age-old problems and impact the conditions of workers and proletarians, in different ways depending on where they live.

In practice we start from Sicily, our land, to explore the reality that surrounds us and the whole world, to then return to Sicily again, the place where we will create the libertarian society we are fighting for, because it is the place in which we live and the whose history, culture, language, whose contradictions, we have nourished since birth.

Over the course of its long life, libertarian Sicily has tried to delve into many themes, sometimes trying to be innovative or investigate little-approached fields. Without going too far back in time, we can however focus on our now almost 100 specials created since March 2015. Well, it was with them that we solicited discussions that often did not arrive. We have placed the theme of militarism and war as central, when it was neglected or occasionally taken into consideration, an area in which we have been personally involved since... always; we have dealt with agriculture several times, both by writing about alternative experiences, and by talking about food or seeds or farmers, or exploitation in the countryside, trying to pose an increasingly pressing question, which we consider among the possible anti-capitalist solutions. We have written about Geopolitics and the Mediterranean, about Bodies and Power or Porn and Sexuality, fields as important as they are underestimated; we explored Degrowth and Earthquakes, Democracy, Freedom and Living. We returned to Faith and religiosity and the Church, topics that this newspaper, a unique case in the libertarian panorama, has always addressed without stopping. Women and anarchist feminism, libertarian education, class school, are other topics on which we have provided interesting ideas. But we also delved into "unusual" topics, such as the elderly, death, risk (especially after the pandemic), slowness, declining birth rates. And then conspiracy theory, the climate, the future, green washing, radical environmentalism, tourism, the colonial and military role of ENI, the depopulation of countries and emigration,... and we stop here.

It's likely that we didn't manage to arouse enough interest; just as it is also probable that a general apathy dictates that at the end of a reading every consideration must remain buried in private.

We will continue to produce such insights, to cast the hook for debate, to propose discussions and consequent methods of action, both in the Specials and in the remaining 6 pages of the newspaper. We will address or return to topics that for us do not represent Byzantine exercises at all but bricks for a common, collective, possibly shared, development of intervention strategies in society. And we promise ourselves to start commenting and interacting with the other publications of the movement or with those that are even partially in tune with our feelings. We are convinced that today more than ever this is necessary and useful.
