(en) Italy, UCADI #182: The trap of resignation (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

More and more we witness, dismayed, the growth of resignation. People
and especially workers seem to have lost all ability to react and
respond to a constant and continuous pressure that characterizes
everyone's life and which produces the deterioration of living
conditions, both from the point of view of remuneration and work, and
from that of health protection and the search for a dignified life. We
often ask ourselves what causes the growing sense of frustration which
materializes in a lack of reaction to abuses and injustices, in
non-participation in the vote, in the awareness that nothing changes,
whether fascists or others are called into government; the feeling that
one is as good as the other and that it is therefore completely useless
to participate and fight is increasingly widespread.
There is some reason why what happens, even if it is not exactly like
that, because the right and the left have different priorities and
objectives but, it should be noted, the substance, the core of the
problems remains, that is the same, and therefore why react , why fight.
The responsibility lies with the left, self-styled reformist, which,
opposing both the revolution and conservatism, operated in the
institutions by stating that it wanted to modify the existing political,
economic and social order through the implementation of a reformative
policy, but instead took note of the failure of his vision of the world
and considered the political and economic domination of capitalist
society as the only valid one, and in any case the winning one, finding
no other way than to propose himself as manager of these policies, in
order to maintain and manage power. There are so many unacceptable
things and things that are wrong that we don't know where to start to do
something.
What happened meant that discouragement, tiredness, a sense of
frustration and the awareness of the impossibility that a real
alternative is possible prevailed. Hence the choice to stop fighting, to
suffer, prone, the events, waiting and hoping that something will
change. The continuous oscillation of a large part of the electorate
from right to left is the result of this common feeling, in the hope of
intercepting the actors of change, to soon fold in on themselves after
the vote and return to groping in the dark.
It should be added that the persistence of this situation over time
produces adherence to a conservative vision of the world and of
politics, that is, it leads to the conclusion that in the impossibility
of changing it is better to keep what you have and rely on the flow of
events and , aware of the impotence in contributing to changing things,
equip themselves individually to protect themselves and their personal
interests.
We are so aware of this situation that we listen and look with surprise,
accompanied by skepticism, at episodes that mark the life of the
proletariat in various countries, sudden strikes, unexpected revolts,
desperate attempts to resolve specific situations, but when it happens
it does not shake us, to make us understand that the time has come to
start a new cycle of struggles that must respond to the change that
capital is implementing, and to the squeeze to which the costs of this
change subject workers, compressing their rights and conditions of life.
The profound malaise experienced by societies in Western countries has
not managed to produce an aggregate of men and women who take it upon
themselves, thanks to their credibility, achieved with concrete and
visible actions. the task of being managers of this process of rebirth
of self-confidence, of the awareness of being a class, of the need to
act and fight collectively to revive hope.
The fact is that to achieve these objectives one of the essential
conditions is the acknowledgment that reformism, as a political
methodology, which operates in the institutions, in order to modify the
existing political, economic and social order through the implementation
of organic , but gradual reforms, has failed, no more and no less than
conservatism.
It is therefore that all that remains is to prepare and implement the
revolution, understood as a radical and progressive change in productive
and social relations, in order to allow the positive components of men
and women to emerge and impose themselves on the exploitation of others.
A society of solidarity is the objective that we should set ourselves as
a goal to achieve, but to do so we do not need an immediate explosion of
anger, the simple destruction of what exists, or, to put it in other
words, an insurrection, but we need to prepare methodically and with
patience, with intelligence and perspicacity, with determination and
with conviction, a strategy made of small and large steps that we can
also call reformism, but well aimed at building the conditions for the
revolution of social and productive relations, with clear and
intelligible objectives , and therefore capable of involving men and
women, bringing them out of that state of apathy and renunciation which
characterizes the behavior of the masses today and which we were talking
about, starting to discuss our common feelings.
