Cum Grano Salis ---- For every social worry or annoyance ---- People
seem to enjoy it. ---- Everyone who has their say we make a nice chorus
---- Of opinions until ---- The fact is no longer in fashion. ---- (G.
Gaber, You can, 2001) ---- The story of Ilaria Salis is a true Pandora's
box of the contemporary age and not just a cross-section of the phase
that Italy and Hungary are going through. ---- So, Hungary. As in many
other countries of the former Warsaw Pact, whose ruling classes were
eager to get out of the Soviet yoke and join the free market, the rift
with Moscow occurred by fanning the flames of nationalism. In the case
of Hungary it is certainly anchored to the history of that country, in
other cases it is clearly invented. However, that fire was literally lit
by Western powers who aimed at the disintegration of the USSR.
Nationalism then became the bête noire of the European Union (in the
"mainstream" declinations of "populism" and then of "Rossobrunism"[1]),
coincidentally precisely in those countries where it had been deployed
with full hands against, not only the objective oppression of "real"
socialism, but, above all, to rub salt on every idea of social change.
Well, these countries (Poland, Hungary, the Baltic countries, etc.) as
well as being characterized by an (also understandable) idiosyncrasy
towards their Russian neighbor (but I would like to know if this
idiosyncrasy was a collective phenomenon or, instead, the prerogative of
some social classes ), they built a memory in which their role as
willing collaborators with fascism was (to put it mildly) tarnished. To
the point of bordering on denialism. Examples of this are Hungary's
silence in the extermination of the Jews and the sensational removal of
the "Shoah memorial" carried out by Poland[2]because it was too
"politically oriented".
This is the culture broth of the "Salis" case.
But there is another plan that emerges from the story. That is, the
phase opened with Russia's attack on Ukraine.
In fact, following the start of the conflict, the EU agreed without any
hesitation to the supply of armaments to Kiev.
A supply that the USA supported, but also delegated to Europe. This
choice has oriented the narrative and propaganda towards indiscriminate
support for Ukraine. A real Diktat, which currently appears more radical
than it is in the USA, in evident difficulty in continuing aid, given
the internal political situation.
In this context, unlike other countries close to Russia, Orban's Hungary
has decided not to unconditionally support Zelensky, for geopolitical
reasons and also for ideological closeness to Putin. Curiously, the same
political closeness of Meloni, who however, as Sovranista de noantri
chose to perfectly fulfill the ordoliberal orders of the EU in exchange
for... in exchange for... Stay in the saddle with the whole bunch of
fascists.
So, after a year, the Salis case breaks out, like all media cases,
inflated to the front pages of news programs and newspapers. With
exaggerations that did not do the case itself any good but which brought
out the very harsh tensions in the majority. Forza Italia on the one
hand (let's see what happens... after all they are the direct heirs of
the DC) FdI in silence as always (better never to expose yourself) and
Salvini's league launches the rest with its own rosary of crazy phrases.
Good, or rather bad, given Ilaria's objective situation. But then what
was supposed to happen happens, the fact comes to fruition. Release from
prison? It's not that fact. The aim was to get Hungary to vote on war
credits[3].
Orban was strongly against it so as not to lose Russia's sympathy. But
on February 1st he must vote in favor of the allocation of 50 billion
(50 billion! Remember this when they later say that "there is no money"
for pensions, healthcare, etc.) because he is under media pressure
precisely because of the Ilaria Salis affair.
Once the credit has been voted, the matter is now deflated, it is being
discussed in Parliament, but the tone has flattened out, the news
arrives much later than the others. The girl almost asked for it.
Tomorrow they will be able to peacefully celebrate the Nazi "Day of
Honour"[4].
This is how the world goes, this is how states go, this is how
geopolitical relations go.
After all, frankly, they don't care.
Andrea Bellucci
[1]As they have been used, these definitions have no cognitive value.
They were above all aimed at demonizing and uniting the most diverse
experiences, which, if they had one thing in common, was that of a
strong criticism of the EU's financial system. But this resulted in a
total misunderstanding (intentional or otherwise) of disintegrative
phenomena, clear signs of suffering, which were then hegemonized by the
right. A clear repetition of methods already seen in the past.
